Hello all,

Well it has been a long time in the planning but I have finally pulled together nearly all the parts to make my very own M40a5 look alike. It has been just that little bit harder as I am located in Australia and a fair bit of this stuff requires the jumping through the ITAR hoops and paying plenty of cash for export licences… but for some strange reason I have felt compelled to push ahead with this.

As a bit of a pay back to all the good information I have been able to glean off this site, I plan on doing a bit of a photo essay and posting it to inspire those that follow me. Any help/advice along the way would be greatly appreciated from those in the know here.

M40A5 – Parts I have so far in a box at my smiths:

Action- Remington 700 S/A

Smith work to be done:
Trued, lugs lapped.
Optic Mount holes open up to 8/40 threadsRear receiver bridge is milled off and clip slotted to accept flat bottom Badger M40A5 rail.

Recoil lug- I was not able again to get a DD Ross, so have again gone with a Badger lug.

Barrel- Schneider Stainless Steel M40 barrel, 1/12 twist, 6groove.

Smith work to be done:
• Finnished at 25"
• 1.200x3, Finnished .925 @ 25".
• Crown- 45 degree pull back, .090" deep.
• Surefire Comp/Suppressor Adapter model MB762SSAL/RE.

Bottom metal- Badger DBM system w/ 5rnd mag.

Stock- McMillan A4 molded in OD green. Spacer LOP. Saddle cheek piece. Sniper fill. 1stud, 6 flush cups, inletted for
Badger DBM

Smith work to be done:
• Pillar bedded
• Bedded with Marine Tex- 1.5" BBL pad.
• PGW M40 Accessory rail bedded into fore-end of stock, thanks to PGW for this.

Optic & mounts- Schmidt&Bender PMII 3x12x50FFP, Gen2 Mildot Reticle by Premier Reticles and with USMC markings.

Badger M40 Base, I found it too hard to get in contact with DD Ross and Badger makes a quality product, it looks great.

Badger Ordnance USMC contract rings- 6 screw front ring, 4screw rear ring.

Gear to get:

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
• Sling- Tactical Intervention Specialists, Quick Cuff Sling, Tan color
• SIMRAD Cap
• And most of all, can anyone point me in the direction of a M24 trigger??????

With the trigger I have as close as I can get to an M40a5 without having to change my nationality and signing up...

Thanks in advance for any advice and I look forward to pulling this together real soon!

Re: M40a5 project from Australia

do you have the PGW mount already, because according to George at GAP, the USMC purchased quite a few badger EFR mounts as well.

heres a cool picture for ya of my rig.

Hey mate,

Will make a few Aussies jealous when you get this build together.

What smith are you going to use to do the work?

Re: M40a5 project from Australia

Good build man. Badger Ordnance stopped making the SIMRAD cap so if you see one, GRAB IT!

As for trigger, use a standard Remington until (IF) you find a M24 trigger, trigger swaps are easy.

Re: M40a5 project from Australia

yeah the simrad cap was a special run for a group buy on the hide a few years back....i feel special

Hello all,

Re: M40a5 project from Australia

USMC Grunt,

Straight from the source, Ross @ PGW.

I will PM you his contacts.

Very very very nicely machined it is.

Re: M40a5 project from Australia

Hello all,

I visited my smith over the weekend and took a heap of pics of the parts pre-build.

Over to him now to start his magic and pull this all together.

Stay tuned for progress shots, over the coming months (my smith really does magic, but because he comes at the right price... you have to wait a while for the magic to occur

Awesome stuff, man. Looks like parts from a grown-up toy box. Haha.

Can't wait to see the progression pics as well as the completed build!

Cheers!
