Hi,

I've trued receivers mostly with a Manson kit, and only single pointed on a lathe once. I had a few questions on how everyone does it:

1: After you locate the root of existing threads, do you feed the cutter straight in, or at 29.5 degrees?
2: Do you use high speed steel or carbide inserts?

Thank you kindly

I start the lathe engage the half nut and then shut the lathe off, then work in with the cross slide to the closest zero with out touching and get real close with the compound. Start the lathe at low speed and creep in til touch. And I only cut threads with the compound I pull out with the cross slide. YMMV
