So I guess the question I have is will this be legal for civilian sale or will the claim be that due to its enhanced performance and penetration characteristics that this is considered armor piercing?

I'm not very concerned with anything the Army field as far as 5.56 ammo. We have access to stuff that is arguably even better and that they can't touch due to the rules of land warfare.

They are not cheap, I give you that. But if you reload on a progressive you can make loads of stuff like that with a wide variety of bonded bullets.

Well the Army says in the article that the round isn't armor piercing, so there's that.

A total copper round except for the penetrator....how much are these costing?

Cost is not an issue if it is the best gear for our soldiers but understand copper is also a strategic metal, with generally higher cost/scarcity than lead.

No soldier ever died of lead poisoning from a round that missed. The environmental concerns in the arena of death strike me as over PC BS.

PC BS for sure, although I know they dress it up as better I have my doubts. It also runs significantly higher pressure and decreased barrel life, as I recall.

VH20 Yes, the pressure is much higher than the M855. The accuracy is not very good either,and it cost about 30 million and it was supposedly stolen from a bullet designer in Fl.
