I just started reloading and I need a good chronograph. I really like the Magnetospeed chronograph but I mostly shoot suppressed. Is it still possible to use the Magnetospeed? If not which chronograph would you recommend? Thanks for your help.

I just strapped my new Magneto V2 onto a friends suppressed rifle this weekend. He's got a SAC 308 with a ~22" barrel and a TBAC 30P1.

We pulled the cover off the 30P1, and strapped the V2 on there. Didn't need to finagle anything in terms of the shimstack to get the bayonet spaced properly.

I didn't want to take any chances of melting my V2 though, so I think we only got 3 or 4 shots off before taking the V2 off to allow the can to cool for a few minutes.

Because the can cover is kind of lumpy/bumpy/amorphous, I was concerned strapping the V2 on top of the cover wouldn't work, or be stable enough....

Bottom line: Attaching the V2 directly onto the can works fine, just don't melt your chrono.

Just be aware of the POI shift you get with the magnetospeed. I much prefer it over the traditional chrony I've used, but instead of run it on every shot during load development, I save the chrony for the later stages. Once I've picked a charge weight that seems to work best and I'm ready to play with seating depth, I run the load through the Magnetospeed just to see where the velocities are.

MagnetoSpeed includes a heat shield. Its a piece of special rubber that goes between the strap and the suppressor - especially for this - since MagnetoSpeed V2 is designed to be used with suppressed weapons. The only caveat is no mag dumps, full auto etc. But if your shooting normal strings of fire, it shouldn't melt anything on the strap.

The differences between the v1 and v2 are really the V2 is designed for suppressed rifles. It comes with additional shims to space the bayonet differently - and the pickup desk is farther away from the muzzle to account for more blast and muzzle attachments (more space). It also comes with a case.

If you shoot suppressed - there really is no choice my friend - if you get the V1 you will only be able to use it on your non-suppressed weapons.
