Had a great day out at the Casa Grande shooting range today. Weather was a gorgeous 81 degrees with mild 5 mile per hour winds. Wanted to try out my new Magnetospeed V3 Chrono on my Gap-10 .308. Never used a chrono of any kind before and found this to be really easy to setup and use. Basically just had to select the proper spacers, which for my Gap-10 with the surefire muzzle break was the largest and smallest plastic risers mated together and then the largest rubber spacer on top. I used the largest of the supplied screws to put the two spacers together. Securing to the rifle was easy, basically just loosened the adjustment knob all the way down, pulled the strap tight and then tightened the knob for a really snug fit. I checked my height with the supplied 1/4" rod to make sure I wasn't going to blow the thing apart and plugged it in. I was happy to see it came with a 9 volt battery supplied, but replaced it with a Lithium 9 volt anyway. Once you plug it in it was ready to record data.

I chrono'd three different loads with the following results. Rifle used was a Gap-10 .308 with a 20" barrel. Maybe someone who does not have a chrono will find this data helpful.

Copper Creek 175 gr. Gas Gun Load was first. It was also the slowest of the three chrono'd.

1. 2531
2. 2553
3. 2541
4. 2525
5. 2536

AVG= 2537 Pretty consistent ammo, accurate, and functions perfectly in my Gap-10

Federal Gold Metal Match 175 gr.

1. 2580
2. 2595
3. 2585
4. 2588
5. 2574

AVG= 2584 Very consistent ammo, accurate always, functions perfectly in Gap-10, little faster than the Copper Creek.

Asym Precision 175 gr.

1. 2657
2. 2649
3. 2640
4. 2630
5. 2647

AVG= 2644 Fastest of the three, very consistent, most accurate in my opinion, functions perfectly in Gap-10. My favorite by far of the bunch, but also the most expensive of the bunch. This is what I'd use if I was serious about matches or truly ringing the best accuracy out of my Gap-10.

Couple of thoughts first I can't imagine and better or easier way to chrono my ammo than with the Magnetospeed V3, I'm sure the V2 and V1 do well also.

I shoot store bought ammo these day as I work too much to take the time to reload, and find all the supplies since components and powder are a total pain in the ass right now. The Asym Precision ammunition is in a class by itself, and I really like both Copper Creek and FGMM, but this ammo will stack them on top of each other no problem. It's like shooting tuned hand-loads in my opinion.

I hope this data gives anyone without a chrono some help or guidance if they have a 20" barrel Gap-10. I'm sure you all know that all barrels, rifles will have slightly different velocities.

Thanks for the post. I'm always interested in what MVs others are seeing, and you posted the temperature as well, which many forget to do.

If you get bored how about throwing five of your FGMM rounds into the freezer over night. Transport them to the range in a cooler with ice. Let me know your MVs. If you have a laser thermometer that would be great. I've been wanting to do this for a year but life has intruded in my plans, time and again.
