What do you guys think about using magnum primers with h335? I have read a lot of people do it with the ball powder and its the only primers I can find in Illinois. I have used small rifle mag primers for 223 with 23gr of h335 and they worked fine. Just figured I would ask you guys and see what your opinions are considering the primer shortage.

H335 is basically the same powder the military rounds use.

The CCI 450 Small Rifle Magnum primer is pretty much the same as the CCI #41 primer used in military ammunition.

So, it will work well.

I used CCI 450s in my .223 loads to reduce the risk of slam fires.

As always, work up the loads in YOUR guns.

I have used them almost exclusively in AR's for many years with H335. As long as the primer was used to develop the load there is NO problem. There is no excess heat and pressure if the load was developed using the magnum primer. Ruined chambers? Where the hell do people come up with this shit? Yeah if you develop a hot load with a standard primer and then replace that standard with a magnum, changing nothing else, you could have some serious problems. If you do that it is not the use of a magnum primer that caused a problem, it is the idiocy of the person loading the ammo.
