I pulled off my Magpul MOE handguard off one of my new rifles the other day. There are 2 huge scratch marks on my barrel from the bottom heat shield. It is a standard M4 barrel. Is there a way to install/remove without scratching up the barrel anymore? If not, I am trashing it.......

Re: Magpul MOE Handguard

Are you sure the aluminum from the handguard didn't rub off on the harder, parkerized surface of your barrel? The new production carbine length and all midlength handguards have a special coating on the aluminum to prevent this.

I dont know. I will look at it again. Something from the heat shield was rubbing. I like the solid feel of the MOE, but the shields are a pain

I am almost certain that is what happened as it's extremely unlikely for aluminum to scratch parkerized steel. I know Magpul had a few complaints about this issue which prompted them to start coating the aluminum with the release of the middys.

Re: Magpul MOE Handguard

I misread your post. So you are saying the aluminum heat shield cannot scratch the parkerized surface? It probably rubbed some of the aluminum off?
