MagPul MS2 sling

Re: MagPul MS2 sling

I get flamed for this from the die-hard Magpul fan boys but I stand by my opinion. I don't like the MS2. It's too narrow. The material is too slick. It isn't padded. Slinging a 7-8lb carbine for 8 hours is not comfortable when used in the single point configuration. The hardware does not lend itself to good use in a two-point configuration; the release of the RSA may change this. Where the MS2 excels is when you need to change shoulders due to barricades. When attached as a single point to an ASAP, it's a very effective sling. I run a two point Blue Force Gear Vickers Padded sling with the acetal adjuster because it's wider, padded, and in general, a more comfortable sling to operate that works in 98% of the situations I encounter better than the MS2 would.

Re: MagPul MS2 sling

I'm a Magpul fanboy, I love my MS2, but I recognize that it has distinct limitations. For my 7.5" SBR AR, it works very well. The MS2 lends itself well to SBRs being used for tactical shooting, training and competition. If you're running a short carbine, or a subgun, the MS2 will work well.
Once you get out past 14.5" barrels, the rifle gets too long and the single point configuration becomes very unwieldy and awkward. The rifle flops around a lot. The sling is also for support, but not for carrying the weapon. It doesn't transfer weight well, and it can start to dig into you. This is especially a problem with heavier rifles.
It's a great single-point sling, and the best I've ever used. It's hard to find single-point slings that don't use bungee material and allow the rifle to bounce around.
In terms of a 2-point sling, it leaves a lot to be desired and I would steer towards other options. There are many much better options available for two-point slings.

I think the MS2 excels in a specific niche. It works very well when you're doing the kind of shooting that you would in a Magpul Dynamics course. If you do something different, then you would be better served to go to a different sling that better fits your application.

I know Magpul is already developing the MS3 sling to redesign the sling to a better configuration, but I don't know what all is being done.
As it stands, a VTAC or Vickers sling will be a better investment for overall general AR use.

I agree with pretty much everything he said, I used my ms2 for one day, then sold it. It makes a better dog leash than a weapon sling.

"The hardware does not lend itself to good use in a two-point configuration;"

I'm trying to understand this comment before I could add much of use to the conversation.

Most of the other opinions are fairly subjective though IMO.

I know that there is a MS3 in the works but IMO it's not a reconfiguration but more of a tweaking of some of the finer points.

Re: MagPul MS2 sling

Before you go waste your money on one drop me a line, I have a brand new one your welcome to if you like them. Personally it is about a useless sling system! Magpul dropped the sack on this one.

I like my Vickers

Re: MagPul MS2 sling

I'll echo the sentiments above about how bad the MS2 is. I had one from the original production run and I tried it and I sold it. It was the most useless sling I've ever used for all the reasons stated above. I use a padded VTAC now.
