According to Leupold, all of the lenses of the Vari-X IIIs' were multi-coated, while only some of the lenses in the Vari-X IIs' were multi-coated (all of the lenses in the Vari-X IIs' were coated, but not all of them were coated with multiple coatings).

I've owned and still own several Vari-X IIIs' and Vari-X IIcs', and while the Vari-X IIc is an older design than the Vari-X III and there is a considerable difference in image quality between the Vari-X III and my Vari-X IIcs', the Vari-X IIc is still a very good hunting scope. This is from someone who ownes two of the ne plus ultra of tactical scopes (the PMII 5-25X[56mm] LP DT 0.1 MIL Gen 2 XR CCW).
