Making 22-250 brass into 6.5x47 L ?

Re: Making 22-250 brass into 6.5x47 L ?

You could and I have made some 6.5 Creedmoor brass out of 22/250 but unless you have a bunch sitting around for free it isn't worth the time or the effort or the small primer pocket to do it in my opinion.

It's worth the extra cost to just buy the Lapua brass the first time and call it good.

If you are dead set on doing it, you will either have to go the Cream of Wheat method or create false necks on your 22/250 and fire form that way. There may be more ways but those are the only ones I can think of right now.

I've reformed 22-250 to 6x47 lapua. Didn't really have any issues, just ran through the die to just chamber which enlarged the neck and created a mushroom top at the shoulder/body junction. (IIRC, the shoulder is pushed back when sized and there is no need to create a false shoulder) I then seated a bullet with a starting charge and fired away. FYI, Lapua brass is slightly larger in diameter that domestic 22-250 brass. You will end up with bulges forward of the case head. The bulges will not be uniform around the case and the case head will not sit exactly centered with the chamber.

These are non-issues regarding function, but just be aware that they will exist. If the brass is free, then go ahead.

But like texasleftychef said, if your buying brass to reform, then just spend the extra on the Lapua. You will be glad you did.

Thanks for the info, sounds like more trouble than it's worth and may even result in a blown case. I guess I'll just bite the bullet and buy Lapua brass. Thanks again jl
