My Shop has given me the go ahead to do ANY personal work i want to when on personal time (including firearms work) but i was wondering.

We have all the machines and i have the experience to be able to machine an action from scratch. If this rifle is NEVER intended for sale, what kind of licensing/forms would be needed to do this 100% legally and legit?

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

As long as you don't sell it, then nothing is required. The ATF prefers you to put a serial number on it for identification in case of theft.

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

This could be VERY fun then

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

Well, i've decided to atleast try this venture by my own design. After no sleep and a whole night in CAD/CAM (VariCad PRO) I've decided to make it a Remington Footprint, integral Lug, and 1.500 Thread tennon. Additionally, i've went with an angular bore port, as opposed to a traditional slot type.

BUT
I need Race/Lug dimensions that will accept a PTG .705OD Remington style two lug bolt. Anyone got it in CAD where i could simply transpose?

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

Good luck. I hope it does well for you.

Something to consider is the type of steel and how it is heat treated. If you have a hardness tester, it might be a good thing to check it in an inconspicous place like the bottom of the receiver. Then smooth the dimple back down before replacing it in the stock, if it's bedded. If it isn't bedded don't worry about it. Or you could check next to a scope mount hole. Most people would never see it.

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

Wow Thanks NesikaBay! I Was planning on buying a piece of 17P4H,
bored and honed to .700, broach it, and then do all the other work but now i can get a possibly much better base to start from for only $100 more. I like this!

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

Nesika, Cant sell anything. No license, so it will be a Personal only. BUT, the rifle may be going to chad for ammo work up, feel free to put some rounds through her then.

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

You do know what a hanger is im not joking. All my BAT action and Stolles use a hanger to mount the trigger. NO NOT A CLOSE HANGER. Its calles a hanger because the trigger fits in one. Hell ill send you one free to use. Its a lot easyer than fiting a trigger into the action

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

I dont but i cna take pictures of mine and send them or if needed i can send 1 of my actions with a hanger and trigger mounted. I will do what i can to see this deal of yors work. I can also give you numbers to a lot of people that will help you out for free. Just look at BAT stolle or The old Nesikabay they all started some where you could be next. I have guns built on a monthly basis actions and barrels cant be built fast enough. I know my grammer sux <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Creeter2</div><div class="ubbcode-body">You have a link to where i can get some more info on this?

Re: Making a Bolt Action Reciever

Why broach the raceways when there are Wire EDMs.... Actually cut the entire profile with the wire. Make a mating lap if you want to fine tune it and smooth it out. Fit bolt afterward.
