I’m ordering a stock and I’m wondering with the specific barrel Mfg. and contour given do you ever have to do any type of fitting to get the berrrled action to fit correctly?

I wish they came perfect, but most of them don't. Use the appropriate size wooden dowels with sandpaper to true the channel up. And if your bedding the rifle it helps to put a ring of blue painters tape near the muzzle end to keep it centered equally in the channel. Also there seems to be some inconsistencies with the depth of the action inlets. You can adjust this with the amount of bedding material used and minor pillar length adjustments as long as you don't mess with the proper distances for the dbm or bdl to feed properly.

Curious to know what specifically about the channel inlet that you say most of them don't have correct? I mean, I would think that if you pay a premium for these stocks, that the barreled action should drop it no problem if you specify the correct action and barrel.

Are you talking about asymmetric barrel channels where it doesn't look perfectly centered, or are you talking about the BA straight up not fitting into the inlet?

Sometimes both. The action inlets always fit, they just lack consistency. But It's usually minor fitting to ensure the barrel is free floated and is centered. Only occasionally do they need to be returned for further corrections. I'd say one out of 3 come perfect and immediately ready for bedding sans issues. But don't get me wrong, I love Manners stocks and so do my customers. The only hassle for a builder like myself is having to spend the extra time on them which is lost $. I cannot charge my customers for the extra work done on them when sending them back for repairs is not an option, usually when time is of the essence.

Interesting, thanks for the information. For my next build I am planning on picking up a T4A with mini-chassis and just dropping a barreled action in, without bedding. I guess I will have to see how everything drops in and hopefully I won't need to do any work to the inletting.

BTW, you have some great pictures of your work on your site! Looks like some awesome rifles.

Thanks for the kind words. All of the Manners with mini chassis that my customers have wanted have been a drop in fit (only 3 of them), with the exception of one that was for a 300 win mag hunting rifle. I bed 95% of my rifles. It had a 2b bartlein which was contacting the stock under recoil as the barrel channel inlet was slightly off center. You should be fine with the mini chassis. An if there's any issues whatsoever they will fix it bar none as the customer service is great. The wait times can be frustrating though if it needs to be sent back in:)

This is exactly the information I was looking for. I’m going with a EH1A with the mini chassis and either a light or medium Palma Benchmark barrel. It sounds like I should have a pretty good chance of just bolting it in.

Skeeter, your work looks amazing. I enjoyed looking at the rifles you built.
