Well, I posted last month that the Marine Corps would be fielding the 'new' SOST heavy-hitting rounds in Afghanistan this past month. Well... they have been using those, and with good success (from what I understand). But now hear this: now there are talks of stepping it up to 6.8mm rounds... here is the article in the Marine Corps Times:

I love my 6.8. It can push 85 gr bullets as fast as 5.56 can push 55-62 gr bullet and leave bigger bleeding holes

I read in the article about recoil problems...If people have recoil problems with the 5.56 they need to start working out with forks as dumbells. The 6.8 recoil is not bad at all, follow up shots are easy.

I'm guessing that's what LL is talking about.
H&K IAR is supposed to be fielded by SAW gunners... some future Marine 0311's.
