Amazing! I'm glad we don't use use so many animals in battle now. Countless horses died slowly tangled up in the barbed wire in WW1. Nobody could go out of the trenches to free them. Two thumbs up for mechanized war.

That story was posted on the Smith & Wesson forum a while back, about the time WAR HORSE came out.
Great story if you're into military history and horses.
My father was in the, what he called, Mule Army prior to WWII. The Idaho NG which was part of the 41st Infantry Div. The horses were taken away when the Division was activated and sent to the South Pacific.
He worked full time for the guard tending horse between drills. Use to tell me part of his job was excersizing the horses. He'd ride them up in the hills north of Bosie hunting and fishing.
Rough job, but someone had to do it.
