I've been lurking for a while but this my first query on SH.

I'm in the market for a 2 Horus H27 reticle equipped scopes. I have had both S&B (I run a short dot on my service rifle)and Premier. Getting either brands with the H27 is pretty pricy (though I would suck it up if there was no real option). However, I think there may be an option for more than $1,100 less per unit...

As an alternative I was considering a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50mm ER/T M5 FFP. I have never owned a Leupold but this scope seems to have all the features I like: H27, mil-mil, 1/10 mil clicks, FFP, good eye relief. They seem durable (I've seen some units return from Afghanistan whose tubes and knobs were worn down to the base metal but still functioning perfectly. I know optical quality may not be up to par with S&B and PR but how much so at 1200M?

I don't want to start a brand war. I know the merits of S&B and PR. I just want to know if I am losing something substancial in what seems to be a very wide price differential.

Thats a rather impressive statement regardless of the company.

Yesterday I went up to the Leupold plant because I am looking at the same scope, just with the TMR reticle. They didn't have the 4.5-14, but I did get to look at the 8.5-25 model with the H58. The glass was really clear, and clean even at the upper magnification. I was totally impressed! I admit that I don't have any $2000+ scopes to compare it to, but it really looked pretty damn good. It was just as clear and bright as my NF 1-4, which I realize is in a different category, but it's the only high dollar company I have to compare to.

I will be buying one, though I might have to sell my Benelli to afford it. If you are mil they give you a pretty good price break as well.
