Brother Slickrick and I had a range trip Friday. We took along a pair of precision rifles, but also an AK and a 336 Marlin in 30/30. I bought the Marlin several years ago, put an aperture sight on and never paid it anymore attention. Then a few weeks ago, I broke it out and started doing some research on loads and whatnot.

On hand were several pieces of brass and I bought some bullets. What a fun rifle. With 28.0 grains of IMR 4895 and a 150g Sierra, it is a pleasure to shoot and not bad in the accuracy department. Fast and powerful enough, it makes an excellent truck gun.

Re: Marlin Crank Action

The .30-30 is one of my favorites. I personally think they don't get enough recognition. Accurate enough for their intended purposes, powerful enough for most situations, & relatively cheap to shoot. The Leverevolution that Hornady came out with can be pricey but effectively doubled the effective range of the little round. Of all the pics I've ever posted on this forum, my "Marlin EBR" got the most questions, PM's, and unsolicited offers to sell it.

Re: Marlin Crank Action

I've dumped a decent amount of money into my 336, love that rifle. Was my first rifle, and continues to be my favorite. I put on an XS Sight Systems lever gun sight rail, a Leupold 1-4x, and upgraded all the interals with Wild West Guns components. Using the LeveRevolution ammo, I'm very confident to 200 yards on whitetail.
