My favourite 22, is one I used to learn to shoot a rifle as a child ( The Golden 39A). Accurate!!! A lever action with the accuracy of a fine heavy barrelled bolt gun. I could easily hit empty shotgun shells at 50+ yards. It was a heck of a pointer too. As I grew older and practised I learned to hit moving targets such as a spam can tossed in the air.

Its my favourite 22. The CZ 452 is up there, and I love it also for target shooting, but the Lever Action 22 is more fun!

What's your favourite 22 Rifle?

My favorite rifle of all I own is defiantly this Stevens given to me by my father a few years ago. Amazingly accurate and extremely unique, it will eat anything I feed it with very little if any accuracy loss!!

Already put it to use this spring bagging my first of the year.

Re: Marlin Golden 39A

+1 On that. I traded for an 1895 High wall and did not keep it too long, nothing wrong with the 1895 looked great shot great but not near as fun as the 39A. Still regret that trade.

The stevens may be one of my favorites of all time as well. Just loved shooting it. I unfortunately no longer have the gun. I found a replica that looks nice, but have not seen one in person and never seen a review of the rifle.

Re: Marlin Golden 39A

Add me to the list of 39A lovers. I got one about ten years ago for helping my aunts friend load a few peices of furniture into a moving truck. Nicest peice of wood I've seen on one and it's a tack driver. It's just a fun gun to shoot.

Re: Marlin Golden 39A

My 39 was bought new in 1952 by my Grandfather at the mine store before it closed.
Spent the next 25 years sitting behind the coal stove in the corner of the den.
My dad found it when Grandpaw died in 77. It then hung above our fireplace till 89' when I moved out, it went with me.
From 77 till about 84 it shot a truck load of cheap 22 ammo along with a Nylon 66 that belonged to my other Grandfather.
Still have both of them in my safe.
The 39 gets out 2 times a month to shoot in out LA silhouette matches.
It still shoots better than I do.

Re: Marlin Golden 39A

For me it would be a tough call between my 39A and 9422. My 9422 has a better trigger and I really like that part better but it's also a High Grade so I don't let it out as much as I do my 39A.

Anyone know any good Marlin smiths that can work the trigger over in a 39A????

This might sound a bit silly, but it works. Take some toothpaste and put it in the the places where you have metal to metal in the trigger and the action. Then work the action and shoot the rifle. Toothpaste will slick your action up real well. and it is easy to use, and just needs cleaned off. It sounds silly, but it really works.

And you can do a search for "Nate Kiowa Jones". He is a lever guns expert for work on rifles. And reasonably priced. Tom.
