We have been shooting for about a year now and have heard about some matches from some of our friends who are more advanced in their ability. Does anyone know about a match reasonably close to southern Illinois where a beginner could go and learn?

I help put some of the RedBrush Tac Matches on. We generally have alot of fun, but do make some challenging stages. RB is limited on range so we make the best of it with target size, time limits, and positional shooting.
Usually Hooters is always a stop afterwards, so its a win/win!

I shoot the matches there as well. It's a decent setup and a great low-stress way to get introduced to precision rifle competition.

I checked out the website for Redbrush sounds pretty good, but is it a members only deal or would we just need to preregister?

For matches you just need to show up. You do not need to be a member to shoot a scheduled match. Registration fee is $10 no matter if you are a member or not.

I do the Red Brush matches also. We have fun with it and it's very shooter friendly. Great place to pop your cherry and hell of a good group (can't say of guys).

Redbrush looks great, but at around 8 hours away, just a little too far. You guys know of anything around Toledo/Detroit area?

Big Piney Sportsman Club in Houston, MO. has a good match every month. Don't know how far south you are in IL.

They alternate a Modified F-class and a LR Tactical match every month except November (deer season).

We are60 miles from the southern tip of IL Houston, MO would be 5 to 6 hr drive thanks for help though hopefully someone else can use it.

Houston is a great time. I live in IL and it takes me 2.25 hours to get there. You can get there a day early and camp out in the Lodge.
Good practice out to 800 yards. great group of guys. They will give you all the pointers you ask.

Turns out Red Brush is only 2 hours from Ft Campbell. Looking around their website i can't find any matches scheduled through the new year.
