Hi I have alway wandered this. I am going to get a match rifle barrel for another build. Is there any benifit to stainless steel over crome molly other than rust/ corrosion prevention, is a stainless barrel more ridiged? Do stainless last longer if taken care of properly? I have a stainless krieger mtu on one of my projects and love it. The only expirance i have with cm barrels are factory barrels from rem and savage.
I notice alot of shooters go with stainless. This will be another rem 700, the cm barrel is roughly $100 less. It will be used for the range from a bench. It will be a heavy match countour most likely silen. Also .308 24inch when finished.
Your experiance will help me make my decision and also put a thread on this so others searching will have a point of reference on this topic.
