We've made a couple changes to the administration and registration format for our May 31st long range match at the BangSteel.com range.

James Parker (silentbushmaster) is transitioning to development and promotion of Rifle Team Havoc (watch for further info regarding Team Havoc and competition training opportunities in the near future). Parker has therefore delegated the operations of this match to others on our team. Parker and I have collaborated on the format of this upcoming match, and we expect it to be every bit as challenging as last September's match.

REGISTRATION FORMAT CHANGE--->> We've decided to allow the remainder of the registrations for the May 31st BangSteel Challenge match to go forth on an "honor" basis. This means that you will pay your registration for the match on match day, in cash (no need to send in payment in advance).

TIMELINE--->> Registration begins at 9:00am, followed by safety briefing and other formalities, and we anticipate live fire commencing NLT 10:00am.

Match fee is 100.00

To register for the May 31st 2014 BangSteel Challenge, email us with the following info: shooter's name, city and state of residence, email and telephone number.

email contact--> [email protected]

For those registering in this manner, please be advised and understand that if we hold a match slot open for you--and you do not show up--out of consideration for the match organizers in this community (and others), we will be publishing a "no call/no show" list of names. If you have a legitimate emergency that prevents you from honoring your commitment to the match, we would simply expect you to contact us ASAP advising us that you're unable to attend. This will allow us to notify someone on the waiting list that we have a spot open. Contact phone number(s) will be found on the "Rifle Matches" page at BangSteel.com

Watch the Rifle Matches page, as well as this thread, for updates and additional info regarding this match. After you have registered, if you need directions to the range site, email us. Many shooters will be meeting for breakfast the morning of the match at 0800 at the Subway sandwich shop just off Bland, Virginia exit number 52, off I-77. In the unlikely event you don't find a caravan leading you from there to the range, please call (276) 613-6868

For those who have prepaid for this match in advance, THANK YOU! Obviously you won't need to bring any payment with you. :)

Match details...

We'll be shooting from prone and realistic field supported positions. These positions may involve simulated structures, vehicles, and natural features of the land (rocks, trees, etc). Target distances will range from as close as 200 yards to as far away as 1040 yards. Light walking, and the ability to get into the prone position on the ground, and get back up, and climb onto and off of a vehicle (for instance, standing in door sill, shooting across roof) will be required. The round count will not exceed 50 rounds per shooter. We will shoot 7 target stages in total. Shooters may need to engage targets at 2 or even 3 stages from the same firing position, all in succession. Time limits per staging position will range from 3 to 5 minutes per shooter (depending on how many targets must be engaged). This time allotment will include your set up time, so practice shot set up and quick target acquisition in advance of the match!

Cartridges of 300 Winchester Magnum and lower power are permitted in the match. The minimum cartridge power will be the .223 Remington. If you're unsure whether your particular cartridge of choice is permissible, email and we'll let you know. Water volume of the case is the format we will use, and since the 300WM has about 91 grains of water capacity, no cartridge exceeding that amount of capacity will be permitted.

We will shoot in pretty much any kind of weather. As long as the targets are visible, you'll be expected to engage them. :) You'll need a scoped rifle, with an optic having the ability to accurately reach 1040 yards. You'll very likely want a good bipod. The 9-13 inch versions will serve you better here. Bring a ruck sack (back pack), a spotting scope if you wish, binoculars, and a laser range finder. Although target ranges will be announced prior to each stage, you are welcome to range them with your own unit.

We'll be hosting a charitable group (to be announced) who will be serving hot dogs and other refreshments for a suggested donation. Drinks will be on hand, but you might want to bring plenty of water to drink. Bring absorbent towels in the event we have rain, as you'll want to dry your equipment (as well as yourself). Trash bags and/or tarps may come in handy if rain is in the forecast.

Range location is in Bland, Virginia. Motel accommodations in Bland, and in Wytheville, Virginia are available. We have a corporate rate set up with Comfort Suites in Wytheville. ( Phone 276-228-1234 ) If you let them know you're attending a BangSteel.com event, they'll give you the corporate rate.

Parker will be posting info about sponsors, as well as other photos from our previous match... stand by for that.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us: [email protected] or [email protected]

We've got a handful of spots still open... we're giving members here time to get signed up, and then we'll do an email push to top off the match with shooters about mid to late April.

For anyone wanting to register... just email your full name, city/state, phone number, and rifle cartridge you'll be shooting, and we'll put you on the list. You will pay in person on match day.
