It took 15 rounds of voting and it was very close on the 14th round, but he finally made it .

On the 14th round McCarthy lost by 1 vote, when some of the 6 holdouts still voted for an alternative candidate (Biggs). By that time, even Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz had converted their votes to "Present" in order to lower the majority requirement.

After the 14th round of voting, one member made a motion to Adjourn until Monday, 12noon. Apparently, that motion was defeated and they caucused a little more and went to a 15th round of voting. The results were, McCarthy 216, Jeffries 212 and 6 (the remaining holdouts) voting "Present" and lowering the majority requirement.

It was so contentious in the 14th round that there appeared to have been a "physical confrontation" between Gaetz and another McCarthy supporter.

    Here's a 2 minute snippet of it.

So, they're about to swear him in and he'll make his opening statement.

Now, let's get down to business. We need to curtail those 87K IRS agents and secure the border!

Well, we have to try. I know Biden will veto most of it, but we have to try.

I'm going to sleep after they swear him in.

yea finally a speaker for a house of going to do nothing I ma so happy for them . in fact I almost started to think the rips would fall off a flat mountain side and vote for a socialist democrat that just would have proven just how Inept they truly are

They can hold 'hearings' and do 'investigations', but there is zero chance of any republican legislation being passed into law. At best they can act as a check on Biden and the dims out-of-control spending, provided not too many rinos flip.

IF any of the stuff that McCarthy agreed to in writing pans out… the holdouts did some real good.

This was not about McCarthy, it was about the Freedom Caucus vs. the swamp. And The Swamp lost if these precepts stick.

    Are those just "promises"?
Because these are politicians we are talking about here.
McCarthy supposedly committed in writing. But you know the value of paper.

So… may only be good symbolically. But at the same time, the Freedom Caucus has some serious power as a result.

Lets see if he boots Schiff and Swalwell from committees which would hurt Russia and China. Then they can go back to having bathroom sex with the male pages all day .
    Would be a good start!

The Church Committee concept is the one that looks enticing! But the Commie media would never cover it like they did the original Church Committee hearings of the 1970’s that gutted the agency. And turned them into what they are today.

But a REAL deep dive into the weaponization of Federal LE would be great!

Note the word REAL. Not Kabooki theater. And covered honestly by the press. Asking a lot, aren’t I!!

    Cheers.

If the Jan 6 voters could of gotten Swalwell outside to question him about dropping nukes on American Gun Owners , I think that would of been a great deadbate.

BTW… is anyone catching the irony that the last speakers battle that went this off-the-rails took place in Dec 1859 to Feb 1860… and William Pennington led the congress to the brink of Civil War…

Which kicked off on April 12, 1861 — days after a new speaker, Galusha Grow, was elected during the Secession crisis. Lincoln was not the only new kid on the block when the festivities commenced. And by festivities, I mean the most destructive and bloody thing that ever happened on American soil.

Let’s hope history isn’t repeating on this one! Because divisive speaker races have almost always preceeded bad, dark times.

What about the detainees from 1/6 still being held without due process? Just one example of the uselessness of "conservative" politicians. How about not having enough money for a 5 billion border wall and then sending 100 billion to Ukraine? Or maybe fentanyl, the biggest killer of our youth by far but it's guns and white supremecists that threaten our "democracy"....etc, etc, etc. This is all just make believe smoke and mirrors to have you think they are working for you.

The Republicans will accomplish absolutely nothing that secures the border, improves lives of actual middle class American citizens, reduces the national debt, protects gun rights, lowers inflation or secures energy or helps veterans. Other than that, we are in good shape.

I wonder what the hell ELSE was going on while the bread and circus distractions were broadcast. Hell, Fox News wasn't even running any ads for Blackrock while the shenanigans went down.

Aren't we already there? Dark times that is.

I flipped over to catch a few minutes here and there throughout the week. What I saw was a bunch of grade schoolers cheering and clapping like a bunch of autistic fools. In between that a few temper tantrums by junior high cliques fighting over which table to sit at in the cafeteria.
The republicunts already fucked up any chance they had to make changes. Between not backing candidates in the faux election and when they were surprised by the win in the house they signed the omnibus. When they actually have any leverage, going into next year's holidays, they will be using the holidays and the election cycle for a crutch.

Are you coming to the realization yet?

He is a deep state fucker with ties to all the bad guys. He wore a Ukrainian flag pin ffs. I’m so fucking mad right now.

You best be all buying more ammo and food. We just accelerated to the glow on the horizon at 135mph.

Yet another nothing burger in a long, undistinguished, line of nothing burgers that come out of DC. Our govt has become so gigantic that there is no way it will ever be effective at getting much of anything done, ever. None of them wanted to "work" on the weekend, that is why this whole debacle ended.

Guarantee they all flew off that night to attend fundraisers this weekend.

Sooo...by all the "holdouts" voting present, and lowering the majority requirement, the they were indirectly voting for McCarthy, just so they wouldn't have to show up on Monday and do it again. Yes, it's all theater. Fuck every one of them for caving. One thing you can say about Piglosi, she had some fucking balls. she used them for evil, but she had some balls. There is not a single ball, or spine, anywhere on the right side of the isle. Not a single one.

Heh. Betcha that you also thought Boehner was really going to "repeal and replace" and Trey Gowdy was serious about investigating Benghazi.

McCarthy doesn't give a shit about you or I or any other prole.

so which ones are the swamp and which ones are the freedom caucus? im having trouble telling them apart.

The freedom caucus knew McCarthy was going to be Speaker. They held out to show they have the power to disrupt the swamp and to get the concessions. It's a shitty job that must be done and I think they did it about as well as they could, as few of them as there are.

They're the same fucking thing and have been every since Michelle Bachmann and her merry band of neocon twits wrestled the Tea Party away from actual libertarians and fiscal conservatives.

IMHO, this whole contretemp with McCarthy was not about whether or not he was good for it or if the other guy would be more politically popular because he was black. It is all about stopping Trump and crapping on Trump 24/7/365. Trump supported McCarthy for Speaker.

I hate for it to always be about Trump and it was not my idea that it be so.

Did you hear the houses response when the clerk called Trumps name as receiving a vote...

    Almost sounded like a growl.

Trump pulled more votes than any Republican in the history of the party... yet they shit on him.

That's because all Republicans, except the freedom caucus, are LIBERAL. Most Republicans go swing with the Democrats, after the chamber arguments are done. There is no two party system. For all practical purposes, Congress is one-sided and it ain't our side.
