Ok I just got confirmation my a5 has shipped from mcmillan. I ordered factory pillars and a cdi precision bottom metal inlet. My question is this: do i still need to install the pillars that come with the bottom metal or will the factory pillars do the job when I bed it?

thanks in advance, Jason

Re: mcmillan a5 and bottom metal question

Depends on the length of the McM pillars.

Pillars and skim bedding on top of the pillars determine magazine location in relation to the bolt.

Only way to know if the McM installed pillars will work is by measuring them against the CDI supplied pillars. Too long and your bolt might not strip rounds from the mag. Too short can always be adjusted for by bedding the bottom metal.

Personally I would use the McM pillars. Check the length of them as Brain said and make sure that they are reasonably close to the CDI pillars that you have.

I would recommend screwing everything together and check for function with some dummy rounds before bedding. Also Jeff at CDI has a longer mag release latch that can be trimmed to length if needed. He is a great guy and very helpful if you call him.
