I find myself in an interesting spot. McMillan just sent out their pre SHOT announcement and the first item is “Meet Rob Furlong” and that he will be at their booth on Tuesday the 19th (blah ,blah, blah). What I find interesting is what am I supposed to say to him? Congratulations for taking out the trash? I respect and commend his skills with what he did. The question would be is this something that should be celebrated?

Please do not get me wrong, what he did is crucial and important and is it something to be celebrated?

Yes. Putting senseless killers down is definitely an accomplishment worthy of praise.

Who knows how many lives that shit head would've taken if he dodged Rob's bullet...

If I may, and please add further to this, but I would suggest that both thanking him, and SUPPORTING him would be appropriate.

The support because (to my knowlege) he has been both disrespected and ignored by the shameful Canadian Government. {of the time} Ya'll wanted to give him and his men medals, and the Canuckiwhack's said NO. Further, him and the men he was with have been ostracized WRONGFULLY because of the liberal trash perspective.

Not wanting to make this political, but I have to say the despicable politics of this country's former regime has damaged and insulted him and his teammates.

So on that note, to show him, his teammates, and you all that not all Canuckians are as useless as our former regime, PLEASE, buy him a beer for me. If I were there, I'd keep him hydrated throughout.

Signed, a Canuckian who's proud of him,

    Sean.

Please understand I would like to shake the man’s hand. To say thank you, buy him a beer, etc.

    Just feels strange….

Not only yes, but Hell Yeah!
I will be there, and I will be buying him a pitcher. They got screwed by their own leadership and demeaned for doing their job, and doing it great!
How often do you get a chance to meet a real pro? In this world, rarely...

    Re: McMillan at SHOT Show

    Should we celebrate his accomplishment?

    HELL yes we should!

Those MF'ers celebrate when they cut off an innocent mans head, they celebrate when they hang guys from bridges and drag them through the streets. You damn right I'm gonna celebrate Ron's accomplishment.

If I meet him I'll shake his hand and thank him for his service. I may even show him a little something that I had done as my token of appreciation to our Canadian allies.

Have no reservations in applauding the application of skills and knowledge coupled with the courage to accomplish the mission. Rob and his teammates not only did their job, they did it well. Ticker tape parades are thrown for athletes that play a game but the accomplishments of the hard chargers here and abroad to include all branches of the military and law enforcement is often discounted and taken for granted. I encourage and look for opportunities to say thanks as I know how much it meant and means to me to get "I appreciate what you are doing".

Having trained with some Canadians moons ago you better bring some cash or a high limit credit card as those guys can drink more beer than your average bear. If any of you gentlemen have the pleasure to meet Rob tell him thank you for me and Gods Speed.

Relax Hugh. The fact that they are putting him on display like that and he agreed to it says he is in the spotlight for every Tom Dick and Harry to come by and say just about anything.

Given your tact, intellect, charm, good looks, and manners, no matter what you say he'll have forgotten you before you're 10 feet away.

    Re: McMillan at SHOT Show

Colonel Grossman speaks about this very thing in On Combat.

It's a wonder that we would throw a ticker tape parade for a fighter ace but we throw shame on an infantryman who does his job.

If what he did was crucial and important then it is worthy celebration.

I've heard it told that there are several LE sharpshooters running around the nation with their own brag book. At peer get togethers the brag books come out and stories, thoughts, tips, and high fives are exchanged. The public would likely find it macabre.

The point? If it is your gig you have a deeper level of understanding, appreciation, professional respect, and maybe even a hint of envy. The public really isn't on the same wave length.

The same holds true for this site; and every once in a while the disparity rears its head here.

And yes, I am a civi - and categorically unable to truly relate.

What to say? Whatever is genuine.

IMHO - a smart move on the part of MCM Stocks - pimpin their rigs to both the professionals and the window lickers with a big name.

    Good luck
