Hi guys,

I know ive asked quite a few questions lately..but i dont want to make un wise choices..

Right now i have a LH savage.. and have a modified B&C Stock for it..i figured the price was right..and it can hold me over until my McMillan gets done..(If i order one)..so about five months..

Question..Is it worth the money? to replace the B&C in 5 or so months? Ive ALWAYS wanted an A4 stock..Just want some input..Thanks..

Also, is it true you dont pay until its done?

(Old Style Short Action LH Savage) .308

Sorry for my Ignorant Questions!

Re: McMillan..should I?

Don't know about the Savage side of it, but the A4 is a chunky bastard....you should get behind one before you buy one...especially being LH you might have a hard time selling it if you don't like it. Check the Link-up section of the Hide and see if there are shooters with an A4 in your area....might be worth the drive to save $700.

Re: McMillan..should I?

Is a McM worth the money? Yes, without a doubt. As to which model, only you can know which one fits you best. With that said, I hear pretty good things about A4s.....

Re: McMillan..should I?

Thanks guys, im gonna go ahead and order one today! ..

Has anyone ever just got the stock butt pad? and not the adjustable one? seems pretty thin compared to all ive seen...whats the limb saver look like?

Also! when i called.. she said the green stocks are painted..but they dont seem painted to me! she said the molded in green is unreturnable because sometimes they dont look nice? lol what about camo molded in?!

Too many decisions!!

Re: McMillan..should I?

One of my A4s has the Limbsaver pad. I wish it had the spacer LOP.

I have several molded OD Green A4s, and a couple of painted ones. Get the molded. The molded camo stocks are fine, I have a few of them as well. Whatever you choose, Im sure you will be happy.

Re: McMillan..should I?

thanks 7mm..

Im trying to get what the USMC uses..so are their green stock molded or painted? Also, do you know what butt pad option they have?

Thanks

Re: McMillan..should I?

Get the molded..if you don't like the color it's easy to paint.I also love my McMillans but you may want to verify that YOU like them too. That's some serious chinga to spend on something without at least trying it.
We need to see pics when you get it....

Re: McMillan..should I?

thanks 7mm.. im so sorry but ihave one more question!..what other options are necissary? im really trying to keep the cost down..are pillars really needed? any other option to improve accuracy? again i cant stress enough how much i need to keep cost down (College student!) will the reg. butt pad be sufficient enough..or long enough for a comfortable pull?

I really appreciate your help

Re: McMillan..should I?

IMO, pillars are needed. A couple of flush cups are always nice. I personally would have a hard time ordering a stock without spacer lop and a saddle cheek. Being able to adjust the stock to your personal needs is always a good thing.

thanks 7mm i just sent oyu an IM (Sorry!) i was going to add a Karsten Cheek piece i already have..Same quality? Is the limb saver just longer? or? I still dont really understand the concept of pillars..is it too much to explain or should i look it up?

Re: McMillan..should I?

Pillars just use aluminum posts where the action screws pass through the stock...so that the bottom metal pushes against the pillar and the pillar hits the action...so no chance of the stock compressing.

Get the spacer system....but if your LOP is 13.5" then you might not need it.

How tall and lanky are you? I am 6'9" 285lbs and I like a LOP of 15" for prone and bench. That was on my spacer system A3.

Re: McMillan..should I?

just ordered it..molded OD green..i can change it within a week.. got the spacer kit..pillars..two flush cups on the right..since im a lefty ha.. i didnt get the cheek piece tho.. i have a karsten..will this look funny? or should i go with the mcmillan one.. oh jeeze this is pricey..

I had the same, sent mine back to McM and they added it in - for a nominal fee, but still - excellent customer service!!!

Get the molded for sure.

So yes, McM are worth it but you should go try one out before you buy.

The A5 may catch your eye and IMHO the A5 is light years ahead of the a4, but that's just me...

Re: McMillan..should I?

Im left handed. so, will they install the knobs on the opposite side or will they not affect me? 7mm...your too convincing with this stuff..I guess itll all be justified and money well spent in time though..I cant understand why the two different people i talked to stressed how iffy the OD molded in looks..they both said it sometimes isnt pretty..

Re: McMillan..should I?

consider getting them to set it up for the Terry Cross KMW Loggerhead adjustable cheek piece hardware. Look it up here there are several threads on it.

Bottom line it is designed that you can take it out for cleaning if you need and then you can put it back in and have the same height. Also it is ambidextrous so you can shoot from both sides of the gun with out the screws poking you in the face.

Just a suggestion.

Re: McMillan..should I?

ill look into it..BTW im 5'9".. 155 lbs.. Do you really think the spacer kit is needed? regardless is the USMC uses it..if i dont need it ill be happy to know ha!

Re: McMillan..should I?

You can put the knobs on either side. I must say this is the first time I have ever heard anything about the "iffy" molded OD green. I have had a BUNCH of OD green molded McMs over the years. Never had one, nor seen one that looked bad.

Re: McMillan..should I?

sounds good 7mm. I think im going to call back and get the cheek piece...and i may also cancel the adjustable butt..do you know if..without it..the length of pull is too short? like i said im not very tall or lengthy.. and moneys real tight..can i send it back later to get installed?

IDK what to do

Re: McMillan..should I?

If it were me, I'd get adjustable cheek piece and adjustable butt plate and pay the extra costs.

The spacer kit is nice if you ALWAYS shoot prone but you may have to adjust it for sitting position.

When I order a new A5 it will have the full ball of wax options, no point - cry once or cry later...

Re: McMillan..should I?

well i just got off the phone...i added the cheek piece..and kept the spacer kit..ill probably be in shock the next couple of days..as i never thought ide pay that much for a stock...but..it is my dream stock..and it should last me the rest of my shooting days..(I hope) and ive always wanted one..so..although i do hate you all for talking me into the full package..and making me broke for awhile..(i dont know how im gonna afford gas to get to school!) yall will be the first i thank when it arrives.
