Newb question here. If I bought a McMillan A4 stock that says channeled for varmint barrel , can it still be used for my 20" heavy barrel from a Remington 700 sps tactical?

Re: McMillan stock question

As far as I know, yes. The barrel contour on an SPS Tactical and an SPS Varmint are the same as far as my knowledge.

Re: McMillan stock question

I will give a hesitant yes.

A Remington SPS Tactical has the standard heavy barrel used by Rmeington known as a Varmint or Sendero contour. As this is a very popular contour, there is a very good chance it will fit in the McMillan.

That being said each custom barrel company offers different contours for 'Varmint' barrels. Regardless, Varmint barrels are typically fat so your SPS should fit. Only most custom Varmints use a straight taper so the stock channel and the Remingon barrel might not line up perfectly.

If your not sure what I'm talking about, look up Krieger barrels, click on 'Contours' and it should help.
