Hi,

i am now Ready to start with a .338 rifle. As a also collector i wantet to buy a .338 rifle used in the USSOCOM i decided (also because the story of American Sniper Chris Kyle) for the McMillan TAC-338. There is so less about it to find. Does anyone have one and can anybody recommend this rifle for precision ? How good is this rifle compared to other good .338 rifles ?

I want to use it with a Nightforce NXS™ 5.5-22x56. Does anybody know which one the Seals use ? And which reticle ?

Thanks

I don't think the SEALs used the TAC-338 widely. Chris Kyle was probably one of the only or few to use one since he was so proficient. Or it may be a case where only 5-10 were issued and because of their jobs hush hush nature there's not exactly info about them open to the public. One gun for sure issued to the SEALs is the MK13 Mod0, this gun was also used by Chris and is in the movie. May I ask where you are from and what shooting experience you have?

Here is a MK13

If you are a SEAL and Chris Kyle fan that's your gun to build.
Info about it can be found here: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/mk-13-mod-0-information-thread.6858717/

Yea sorry I can't help you on TAC-338 info. I have done a lot of research on modern military firearms of the US and never came across any info on it. The US military and yes SOCOM currently uses this as their .338: https://www.eurooptic.com/Remington-Modular-Sniper-Rifle-MSR-338-Lapua-Magnum-86638.aspx

The UK and more nations around the world than I can list use the AWSM in .338. Good quality gun for the price and the one I'd recommend if you want an actual service rifle. There is not many .338 service guns out there since it's a relatively new caliber and the military is slow to adopt new concepts. Or you can try and research the TAC-338 more, there's basically no info online about it but if you were to contact McMillan maybe they can help you out more. You can also ask your question here: https://www.ar15.com/forums/Precisi...niper-Rifle-Photo-and-Discussion-Thread/3-40/ Some people who frequent that thread actually work on the rifles for the SEALs.

Thanks anyway, the Remington MSR is nice but also really expensive, double Price of a TAC-338 nearly and i actually like the look of the TAC-338 and not many people have it. It don't Need to be to much a service rifle, i mean Chris Kyle is already nice ;). I just try to get more infos about the TAC-338.
