I have a McMillan A5-3 stock with the thumb wheel adjustable check piece. I don't seem to be able to stop the cheek piece from rattling around. I have tightened the two screws on the side, but that has no effect. Do I need to bed some part of the adjustment mechanism to the stock? And if so, is there some trick to it? Thanks for any help.

Re: McMillan thumb wheel question

Take the integral cheek piece all the way off. Inside the stock you will see a mounting bracket held by two screws. Remove one at a time, and replace with a dab of two part epoxy on the threads. Now look at the cheek piece, and tighten those two screws without the use of adhesive, as these offer side to side adjustment. This is what I do to all those with adjustable cheek pieces to prevent them from coming loose. Good luck.
