meplat trimmer for 110 hp's ?

Re: meplat trimmer for 110 hp's ?

If I'm not mistaken, didnt you start a topic about this once before? And you were told it wasnt really worth the effort to trim the meplat? Also thats were my sig line came from, you called me an "asshole" or "smartass" when you asked about military shooters trimming the meplat or reloading for issue guns.

Short answer to your question, nope wouldnt do anything to them, especially since you are shooting inside 400 yds.

I looked into this and they said that you loose 2% of your BC by doing it. Granted, that's not much but with all the work put into it and loosing BC it's just not worth it.

Re: meplat trimmer for 110 hp's ?

Shot- Losing 2% on BC is something that some LR shooters are willing to trade for the consistency involved. If a 175 SMK lands 20" lower at 1000y but it does the same every single time, then it's more predictable and your scores are likely to be higher, so trimming is acceptable.

Additionally, some trim and then repoint the bullet. This gains the consistency and helps bring back the reduced BC.

OP- I wouldn't bother trimming them, it won't make a realistic difference that the time is worth to me for that bullet and range.

Bohem, I guess what I was getting at was that I haven't had any inconsistency that I would attribute to not having a perfectly pointed bullet, but on the same note I also haven't seen much variation on bullet length. You're right and like I said 2% BC loss isn't enough to worry about but I don't trim and haven't had consistency problems that couldn't be attributed to something else. So really we're saying the same thing.
