Gunsmiths, I need your expert opinions.

I need to add weight to the rear of my stock. I need this weight to balance out the heavy barrel I've had added and to provide a more stable shooting platform.

The stock is a Bell and Carlson aluminum bedded medalist stock.

I have cut off the recoil pad and have found a hollowed out cavity perfect for packing with Lead or Mercury recoil reducers to add weight to my stock.

I already own the mercury recoil reducers so glueing them in would be quick and easy. However, is there some outstanding reason that I should buy a bag of lead shot and use it instead? Is there a major drawback to using mercury recoil reducers for adding weight to a rifle stock?

I need your expert opinions, please!

Thanks!

Re: Mercury or Lead?

Lead works well and its cheap , the past few I added weight to I actualy used 1" carbide 4 flute enc mills that were no more good , use a 1" drill for the hole and drop it in with the flutes faceing out and theirs a bunch of grip for the glue to hold on to
Carbide is very heavy and I can't beat the price FREE

Re: Mercury or Lead?

Free is what I'm talking about!

I already own the mercury recoil reducers. They are bought and paid for. Just gathering dust and taking up space.

Hence the question about going out and buying lead. Is there a major draw back to using the mercury recoil reducers I already own?
