Midway has Factory Seconds on sale

Get'em while they're hot.

I got me some "142" grain seconds which are the 142 SMK's, 29 cents a pop.

And more. I got a BUNCH of 80g. 6mm Hornady GMXs...

...and 103g. 6mm HPBTs...

Search for factory second bullets; you're sure to find something you need.

I almost bought some seconds last time I ordered from them. BUT what are seconds? They must have failed something in QC, right? So spending money on a bullet with flaws means that won't shoot as good. seems like wasted $$$.

Please let me know if im wrong.

I've shot my factory-second 80g. GMXs--Midway doesn't indicate that they are that bullet, but I determined that's what they are--in a normal AR15 in 6X45 and produced a few bugholes, so I'm quite happy with them.. I've seen but not shot the 103g. HPBTs; they LOOK just fine, but I know that doesn't mean much.

'Tis a wonderful country, ours--we get to spend our own money and buy or not buy whatever we want. :)

Seconds might have some stains on the copper, polymer tips slightly deformed, the weight might be a just outside the QC standards. I've shot seconds that were 308 175gr Sierra Matchkings, 7mm 139gr Hornady GMX, 7mm 175 Hornady ELD-X and a couple others.

The first rifle rounds I ever made were with seconds from Sierra. 175 Matchkings bought from Graff n Sons. Lapua brass, IMR 4064 in my Savage 10FP 26". Fantastic stuff and I couldn't tell the difference from the seconds to the next few boxes of stuff I bought at the store. At that point in my reloading journey, I wasn't knowledgeable enough to weigh bullets, measure length, worry about meplat uniformity, etc, etc. All I did was check to see where the bullet touched the lands, then turned my seating die an additional half turn to give 0.030" jump. End. I was only concerned about downrange results, which kept life simple.

Another example would be a factory box of GMX bullets would have an overall better surface finish, the polymer tip was pointing not perfectly straight, or the groove rings were cut a little deeper, or the weight was like either 136-143gr for the seconds as opposed to 137-141 for the good ones.

Guess what? I loaded the seconds with the same load data, to the same seating depth, and none of the imperfections made any noticeable difference out to 500 yards.

Load and shoot.
