Rifle Scopes Mil-dot Side Focus Under $600

I am looking for an recommendation on a scope for my friend. He just bought his first gun ever, a Remington 700 LTR .308. He wants me to suggest a scope for him to put on it. I suggested a USO or a S&B like the one I have on my .308 he wasn't really fond of dropping that kind of cash.

So he is looking for a mil-dot with side focus for under $600?

I was looking at the Nikon and the Vortex.

I like my vortex viper hst. Got it for 520. Tracks well and is pretty clear. Eye box is a little tight at 16x that's the only negative I've found so far. Good clicks on turrets and I'm really liking the mil mil setup. Would he want a fixed power? If so id get a swfa ss.

+1............was going to say exactly the same thing.
If you get an older model (4200) you'll need a canted base as they have a limited adjustment but for that kind of money there are none better.
