At the advice of many here, I looked at several scopes today, including NF. The one 5.5-22 they had in inventory was one with mil-dot reticle and MOA knobs. The price was right but I cant see any advantage to mismatched reticle and knobs. I am fairly well set on mil/mil as that is what my other scope is but want to consider all options. To save an extra $100, is this scheme something you could deal with and adapt too? If the manufacturers make it, there must be some up side to this arrangment. I just dont know what it is.

No advantage to it. Actually it's a disadvantage. It's left over from when that was the only way scopes were offered and some people like to keep it that way but I'd recommend going mil/mil like you want.

If you are paying the cost of a NF 5-22 I wouldn't skimp on the adjustments. Matching reticle/adjustments makes life much easier.
I run 2/3 of my scopes mil/moa just because I can't afford to switch them all over right now. Like Rob said, mil/moa was the standard for a long time and is functional, but not optimal.

I agree with Rob....stay mil/mil if that's what you have. I was trained mil/moa and that's what I have and am used to. I haven't used mil/mil, but I can see the practicality of it.
