Rifle Scopes Mil-Scale Canadian/ Mil Relation Formula

Anyone used the Mil Scale Canadian reticle to use the Mil Relation Formula for ranging? There doesn't seem like there is a difference other than using stadia lines other than a dot(Mil Dot. Am I wrong or same concept and mathmatics?

All milliradian-based reticles will use the same formula for calculating distance based upon measuring the image size with the reticle.

Thanks, I thought this was true, but have never used one.
