Looking for a new scope for .204 I do a lot of target shooting and some hunting. I am looking at a Falcon 5x25 56mm and the millet 6x25 56mm trs. I thought i would throw the mueller 8x32 out there too. I had an APV on a .22 and what a scope for $100. What are the pros and cons of each and what would you go with.

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

Can not speak to the Millet or Falcon but I have a Mueller 8X32 and I like the small dot for target shooting. I think for the money they are good scopes. For what it's worth, I heard a lot about falcon both good and bad

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

I hear the 5x25 Falcon may be hard to use at higher powers.

I have the 4-14 and it tracks well, has matching reticle/turrets, FFP, and the glass compares to a Leupold from what I have read here. That's pretty hard to beat however, for hunting it may be a little overkill. That's up to you.

If you are going to step out of a truck and set up on a dog down it might be fine. If your rifle is a walking hunter you may want to use something with smaller turrets.

Oh yeah, I have used a Mueller on my .204 walking hunter for some time and it's a little beat up. No complaints yet.

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

If your hunting involves any offhand shooting the 8x would be out IMO. I have not turned the knobs on the new mil/mil millet but I do own a Falcon 4-14 mil/mil. The Falcon does very well for what it costs and keeps its zero fairly well while running the knobs. A friend of mine uses the Millet and seems to have to rezero his scope often when running his knobs.

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

My rifle is a 700 varmint, 26" heavy barrel. Hunting will not consist of a lot of walking. I like to bench rest shoot and just need more power. As you can see my limit is about $550. Is there any other options you would look into as far as brands? I like the idea of 25 power but maybe a 20 power in a better brand would be just as good?

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

Can't comment on the others but I had a Millet 6-25x56.Tracking was nice, reticle was sharp but I was not impressed by the clarity of the glass, especially on higher mag.HUGE telescope!Eye position was not forgiving and it just was not a "clear" image.Lots of light "flare" in bright sunlight at some angles.I ended up selling it and replaced it with a Bushnell 4200.Sorry my explanation may not be perfectly technical but I've tried to explain it as best as I can.

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

I just sold my Millett TRS-1 (4-16x50) and bought a Falcon Menace 5-25x50.

I wasn't unhappy with the quality of the TRS-1, but it really didn't have the features I wanted - Mil/Mil and turret revolution counters. I liked the Mil-Dot-Bar reticle, but I decided to try the ML-16, and the FFP isn't too shabby, either.

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

I had looked at the 4200 also. How does it compare? Would u say a vx III on 20 power be better than a falcon on 25 power. I hear everyone say a better quality scope can get by with less magnification

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

I have both the Mueller Tactical and the Mueller Tac II. The tactical has decent glass though the tube baffling is kind of bad and the eyerelief a tad short. For the Tac II, the glass is quite good with colors better than my Leupy VXIII and similar to my Zeiss Victory, tactile clicks, nice and compact, VERY wide adjustment range, and decent eyerelief. It is not as bright as the two though (since the Leupy is 50mm and the Zeiss 72mm).

I think the TacII is the best compact SFP entry level scope (which is why I have one). It also happens to be assembled by Sightron.

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

I'm gonna suggest this one again. The Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50 mil dot. The glass is great, comparable to my Leupold MK4! I just can't find anything bad to say about my Vortex!

Reticle thickness or glass quality?

Re: Millet vs Falcon vs Mueller

If the Falcon and the Millet aren't clear at 25 power, wouldn't i be better off to comprimise for a leupy that is clear at only 20 power? I would really like to find something around 25 max power for the bench and 5 to 6 low end for some hunting. What would be the best?
