Thinking about a compact AR10 precision gun, and I want to eek out the most range as possible with the gun. My first thought is a 6.5, and then I guess it comes down to either how far do I want to go or how short do i want the barrel to be. So, I picked an arbitrary range of 1000Y

; anyone know off hand what the minimum barrel length on a gas gun would need to be to keep a 6.5 bullet supersonic to 1000Y reliably?

Thanks!

Minimum length? I would bet 20" will get you there, even 18".

I have a 26" Creedmoor and am building a 20" one as well. I wish I could give you info on the 20"

my 20 inch Creedmoor runs factory 140gr. Amax's @2550fps if that helps you, 129SST's are 2775 and the 120 amax's are 2750, again, all factory ammo out of a Noveske 20 inch tube so to answer your question, they're all supersonic @ 1000yds
