I'm buying a Mini 14 for my pops when I return to the states and was looking for an optic. He's going to be varmint shooting at pretty close ranges (50-100 yds) and otherwise just screwing around so I figured a lightweight, fast scope would be ideal. I've been looking at the Burris or Leupy scout scopes and was wondering if anyone had any experience with either one since I have no experience with these type of optics.

Re: Mini 14 Scout scope

I purchased the Scout scope sold by Leupold and had really good results. I was using it on the ruger M77 guide gun. I'm sure you know that this scope has an extreamly long eye relief so it can be mounted about 6 inches futher forward, almost like a pistol scope. Not a great deal of magnification but I could hold and inch at 100yds. Very quick to point and shoot and was very clear. Hope that helps, good luck with the search.

Re: Mini 14 Scout scope

FYI, I'm not sure how well that scope will work on the mini-14, the ruger I had was built so the scope mounted in front of the action. I'm sure they have mounts that will work for you aplication, but it will need to be placed well forward of typical scope placement.
