Minox MD 88 APO spotting scope?

Was wondering if anyone has any experience with this spotter? I’ve owned a minox md62 and really liked it. Was wondering if the 88 was worth it?

I got to use one for a couple of days at a class I just took and it was a really nice instrument compared to the Vortex Razor I had and nicer than the Kowa TSN-82SV that I have today. However, got to use an MD 80Z with the reticle and that was a much better experience for shooting. The reticle is a huge advantage

I really want the md80zr with the reticle but I found an awesome deal on md88 so I’m kinda torn.

I have one showing up tomorrow that I ordered from camera lands demo page. As soon as it gets here, I'll give you a quick comparison to my spotter 60.
Have you had a chance to compare the two yet? I’m getting ready to order a spotter 60 but if the minox is on par or really close to the spotter 60 I may have to consider the minox.

Sorry guys. I just got home to find a notice on the door that I missed the package today. I asked for it to be sent without a signature required, but that obviously didn't happen. I'll have to go pick it up tomorrow now at the hub.

Ok, so here's a quick comparison to my spotter 60:

Glass: Hensoldt is a touch brighter..... Not by much though! I am very impressed with the MD88 for the cost! Clarity is about the same. I really couldn't tell any different until the very upper range (60x), and the difference was pretty much because the Henny is a little brighter I think.

Fit/finish: The adjustment dials on the Hensoldt are definitely smoother, but that could just be from the Minox being brand new. The course and fine adjustment dials are pretty tight still and caused excess movement while focusing. Hopefully they break in and free up some.

Final: I bought this Minox as a demo from Doug. It came in a sealed box that sure looks brand new to me. I paid $1,100 for the "demo". The Hensoldt is around $3,400. It's a no brainier to me. If you don't need a reticle, save the coin and get the Minox. But, if you're a glass snob like me......the Henny sure is nice?.

Hope that helps,

Todd

Thank you very much for the comparison. That is great to hear. I ordered the minox. Can’t wait for it to get here. Thanks again

Where did you find the best price at?
I follow Minox MD 88 listings on eBay. Scored one for $850 nobody else bid on it. That’s where I’ve seen the best prices. There’s one that got relisted twice now and the starting bid is $999
