Has anyone made a silencer mirage cover? I was looking at the TAB mirage covers and they look great but are they $65.00 great plus shipping?

If there is a less expensive means to build a respectable mirage cover I am inclined to give it a try. I'm not shooting full auto.

Re: Mirage covers

Get the TAB cover and be done with it.
Tony and family make great products.
The GEN III is nice and allows the cover to be pulled back over the barrel to allow the can to cool between shooting strings.

One word of caution, be sure to slide the cover over the barrel before you put the suppressor on the barrel.

Re: Mirage covers

Get a TAB. How much did you pay for your can? Did you complain about how expensive they were and try to build your own? I'm sure that you paid enough that you don't want to duck tape some asbestos to your suppressor.

Trust me, $65.00 is a very reasonable price to pay for the quality of a TAB anti-mirage cover.

This!

Re: Mirage covers

Buy the TAB cover and be done with it. By the time you figure out how to make a sub standard cover you will have already spent several hundred dollars. The smart move is to just buy the TAB cover. I have absolutely nothing but very good things to say about TAB products.

My sidekick runs TAB covers on his LR an other sticks,... I run Tom Bowers, Silicone on mine. He does not shoot full auto,...I do.

Grip-Tastic High Temp Silicone suppressor covers are used at many full auto shoots, for a reason.

Price or Tacticool-ness should never be a factor when it comes to protecting your Can first, your meat second, or final score third.

Once/if your life is on the line, gear performance is the only thing that matters, everything thereafter is,... Does this piece of Gear make me look cool or like XXX ?

Can covers are subjective, build or buy, what works for you, not the herd or Rambo. When it all goes to shit, your the one that has to operate your gear. No one else cares about your gear as long as your holding up your end.

Re: Mirage covers

I've made a couple of covers with Velvet Shield - one closes with snaps and the other is a sewn tube with a large retaining sleeve at the rear, using nomex thread. They have worked quite well for me, and a $20 piece of Velvet Shield and $3 worth of nomex thread will make three or four covers.

Velvet Shield is not abrasion resistant, and it can be stretched out of shape, but for my LR work it does what it needs to do.

Re: Mirage covers

The TAB is a very nice cover, does what it's supposed to. Unless you really really want to invest the time and effort in making something similar, that $65 will just roll into the price of the can and the hobby and mean less and less as time goes by. Remember the first time you spent $100 for a bipod? Or a buck a round for ammunition?

Re: Mirage covers

Bowers Griptastics on all of my rifle cans (22, 556, 30cal). Put it on once and forget about it. Had no mirage at a shoot last weekend, ambient 95 and in the sun for 8 hours. Sold several cans to fellow shooters and every one of them ordered a Griptastic to go with it.

Added bonus, serial number stays protected.
