Director’s Match
Precision Rifle is a new division we are implementing this year. Precision Rifle matches will be fired concurrently with the regular NRA long range matches held in Missoula, Montana at the Deep Creek Range. This match is for individuals that want to fire at a long range, known distance course, but wish to use rifles that are more “field worthy” than some of the dedicated LR match rifles. The focus of this division is for rifles that can be carried in the field and used in tactical matches or long range hunting. The rifles in this division will compete against themselves and not other divisions.
If your rifle conforms to NRA rules for F-Open or F-T/R, and you would like your scores sent in for classification purposes, let me know and we will discuss it. However, this is not a NRA recognized division.
This match will also allow the use of suppressors, but NO muzzle breaks. This is due to the proximity and the amount of other shooters.
This rifle division is evolving and if you have suggestions, please feel free to contact me. The basic rules, course of fire and contact info follows:
Precision Rifle Equipment Rules (provisional) :
• Semi Automatic or Bolt Action Scoped Rifle
• Must have a functional safety
• Trigger pull must be at least 1.5#
• Bolt Action Rifles must be repeater type of action - capable of holding and feeding at least 3 rounds of your match ammo. The event will be single round load, however.
• .35 cal and under (no .338 Lapuas)
• Barrels are limited to 26.5” maximum - measured from the bolt face to the muzzle.
• Muzzle Brakes will not be allowed.
• Rifle weight limit of 16lbs with Bi-Pod attached. (Weight includes any accessories attached to the rifle, except sound suppressor)
• All bipods must have folding legs (i.e. Harris type). Field pack may be used instead of bipod.
• All ammo must be capable of being fed from a magazine, mag well, or blind magazine.
• Optics will be restricted to 1X to 20X maximum. If a variable scope goes higher than 20X, it will be taped at 20X (or less) setting.
• Rear rest: bag type, and must not weigh more than 2lbs.
• Shooting gloves, mats and jackets are permitted.
• Suppressors: legally owned suppressors are permitted to be used; bolt or semi auto rifles may be equipped with a sound suppressor. Barrel length will be measured without the suppressor.
• F-Class targets will be used
• All NRA rules will apply except noted as above.
FIRING TIMES: Firing starts ~3:00 PM MDT on Sunday and 9:00 AM MDT on Monday. Match may be delayed or re-scheduled due to inclement weather, or low sun angle (any decision to delay or change the match will be made by the Jury).
LOCATION: The Deep Creek Range Complex west of Missoula, MT off Mullan Rd. Exit I-90 at exit 101. Proceed south on Reserve St. 1.5 miles to the intersection of Mullan and Reserve. Turn right (west) on Mullan; proceed 5 miles to Kona Ranch Rd. Look for the large brown signs to the range beginning at this point. Turn left (south) on Kona Ranch and follow the signs for the next 7.5 miles. Note – the pavement ends on Kona Ranch about 2 miles from Mullan. The remainder is graded logging road. The range is on the right side at the top of hill. Look for a trailer, sheds and vehicles. The Public Range is to the left and High Power Range is to the right – past the trailer and through the green gate. Once past the green gate proceed along the perimeter road to the target shed in the vicinity of the target pits. See Google Map notes at the end of this match program.
