Mix powder for consistency

I tried searching for threads on this subject, as I thought I had seen one before... but couldn't find it.

I have a bunch of 1lb bottles of the same kind of powder, just with different lot numbers. They have been sitting there forever, as I keep using 8lb'ers with matching lots.

Is there any harm in mixing all the 1lb bottles together in one big batch?

Re: Mix powder for consistency

I've done it many time. Just open the bottles and look at it and smell it to make sure some of it hasn't gone bad. If it looks like powder and smells like powder, mix it up and go for it.

When I have done this in the past, I drop the powder charge by .3 grain (3 tenths) and look at the group and chronograph to see if there is any difference. Remember the temperature difference of when you last shot it.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. It seemed logical in my head, but a quick sanity check is easier to deal with than a blown off face.
