I see lots of pics of MK13 Mod 5s, but I know very little about the very first variants of this rifle - does anyone know the specs of the earliest Mods? Also, when they entered service?

Are these MK13 Mod 1s?

This is a great question and the same one I have as well. After seeing Chris Kyle's pictures in his book I have been wanting to build the same rifle.
Thanks in advance.

Yes - my mistake - I meant, Mod 1.

To my knowledge, the MK 13 Mod 5, is a Mk13 action, 26" Lilja, AICS, Remington MARS rail, with a 5.5-22x56 Nightforce.
The Mk 13 Mod 6 is the same except it's in the AX chassis.
The MK 13 Mod 1 is the same except it's in a McMillan A2 ADJ.

My understanding is that the Tac 300 and the MK13 actions are identical with the exception of the coating.

I actually have a Mk 13 Mod 6 clone with a Bartlein 24 1/4" instead of a Lilja. -- Will grab some pictures later today.

Interesting - thanks for sharing.

My understanding is that up until around the mod 5/6 transition time they were built on trued 700 long actions. I really like those rifles up until the AX chassis. To me it just doesn't look right for some reason.

Your links didn't cross over because of the way the Marsoc site is.

Mk 13 mod 6 with a Surefire

1 & 4 I think are the same dude.

It's important to note a few things...

The AX chassis comes in 2 hanguard lengths. I have the longer version but, there is a 10".

Per my experience each unit tends to use different optics and different suppressors. - Clarified this.

I'll get some more pictures up here of my clone a bit later.

Mk13 Mod 0/1?

AFAIK,

Rem 700 long action,
Mcm A2 stock
M16 extractor mod
McCann MIRS rail
NF 5.5-25 scope with high rings
300 Win Mag
Lilja 27" barrel with 10" ROT

Built by armorers at Crane and utilized a one off recoil lug that was "L" shaped and incorporated a third action screw just underneath the chamber section of the barrel. I believe the rifle came into issue sometime in the 90's but not sure when it was replaced by the later models. Have seen pictures of some with suppressors and some without. The Badger Ord 2008 Sniper Rifle calendar has good photos of a Mod 0.

My Mk13 inspired 700 next to M24 and M40A5 tributes.

These are some great pictures. Do you have anymore of these and is there a link to where you got these at?
Thanks

Thanks! Its taken a while to cobble all the parts together for them....

I found some more photos of the recoil lug (not on my rifle unfortunately) I believe that HCS will build a Mod 1 with the correct lug as they use one of the original smiths who built Mod 1's for the Navy......

side profile of the lug

bottom detail

bedding detail

escutcheon in stock for additional action screw

I have seen photos with the Army Airborne troops using the Mod 1 also, usually with a more standard scope base and Leupold Mk4 optic. Being the 1990s I think that A191 would be the standard ammo so I had mine built with that chamber.

Thats a interesting recoil lug. I wonder if that is better than the normal lug.

I promised you guys some pictures...Was a nice day yesterday so, I managed to snap a few before we headed to the range.

When I was building this rifle, a buddy of mine was using one on duty -- The specs for a Mk13 Mod 6 according to him were:

AICS AX Chassis - With 10" handguard
Lilja 26" M24 profile 1/10 barrel - Profiled for a KAC can - Ultimately that's based on unit.
MK13 Stiller action
Remington 700 Trigger (I was initially told the X Mark but, that's a big ?)
Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56

Apparently for the mods before the 6, IE before Stiller won the contract, they used trued Remington 700's with standard trigger groups.

Crane also still has an open contract for information in regards to Carbon Fiber barrels: https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportu...&id=07f23672177b624da227573a9207752b&_cview=0

Good luck with that on a 300wm...

Anyway my build/tribute/clone - whatever you want to call it:

AICS AX Chassis - Cerakoted
Bartlein M24 5R 24 1/4" - Cerakoted
Jewel HVR-TS
Stiller Tac 300 - Cerakoted
Spuhr mount
Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 with an ADS
Surefire 7.62-RC Suppressor

I reload MK248's with 208 Amax / 220gr Match-King / 240gr Match-King.

Anyway here's the rifle porn:
