Frank Galli (are you on here?) wrote an article posted on the main page, reference the MOA vs. Mil debate. Nice article, but I have a question. He makes the statement that one is not better than the other, and also explains why he thinks that MOA should be eliminated, outside of bench rest and F class, due to the bastardization of the measurement that compounds at long range. Everything he said, in this well written article, makes sense, but that statement. Why would he exempt Bench Rest and F Class? They are long range disciplines, are they not, so it would seem they would benefit from the switch? What am I missing?

Frank (@Lowlight ) is definitely on here, haha. He’s the forum owner and “HMFIC.”

I think F-Class and BR are exempted because they’re so entrenched in MOA that you’ll likely never get them to change, and perhaps more to the point, MOA is a finer measurement than the MRAD. Those guys could use that to their advantage. While our sport (“field shooting”) also strives for accuracy, the F-Class and BR guys take it to an extreme.

Neither Benchrest or F Class use the scopes in the same way we do.

They are rezeroed for each new target for lack of a better word, doesn't matter what the adjustment is to the center is or how it is derived, but their targets are in MOA and that will not change anytime soon. Bench rest really needs nothing more than a dot or line and some minor clicks.

You only need those yard lines you are working, for benchrest it could 1, 2, maybe 3, but in reality it's about the range. Same for F Class, you can have a number for 300, 400, 500, 600, 800, 900, 1000, after that you need no other adjustment information beyond the small adjustments to the center of the X Ring. Few minor clicks for fine tuning and you are done.

They would benefit from a course and fine knob, a course for the yard line, fine for the target.

Their targets are the deciding factor, the rings in MOA which you can use straight up IPHY vs true MOA but that is part of the bitch now isn't it.
