    Behind Enemy Lines
I attended day one of MDM here at Quantico. I'm just up the road in Stafford and have been attending shows here back to the FPED days. Day one is always busy and many of there pics were taken before the show opened. I'll hit some other vendors tomorrow or if someone has a special request I'll try and check them out.

Random iPotato pics, there were many, many more vendors across the four pavilion tents.

I stopped by Barrett, HK and others, but they hadn't put their rifles out yet. I'll try and get back tomorrow and see what they are showing.

FWIW - The Nammo folks (Lapua) were showing 50cal that had a polymer upper combined with a brass lower/rim, a 100rd can is a full 11lbs lighter but no sacrifice in ballistic performance.

just want the marines to get rid of teh 308s and go up to the 300wm like the other services. They dont even have to be new their armorers can upgrade the as needed.

    Pretty sure that's a MATV.

    Here's the JLTV.

FWIW, the Marine Generals were out in force yesterday, most staying hours at the show listening to the vendors and the advancements they're touting. There were also cadres of senior Marine officers doing the same. I scrubbed the pictures so I didn't include them, but you can get a slight hint in the Saabusa photo of the Gustav projectiles. The marine officers were actively engaging the Saab folks with operational reports while learning of pending improvements.

Ha, Q Town does bring back memories. That’s for the trip down memory lane.

This is done. Was announced 4-6 months ago.

Day two pictures. I started at the Marksmanship Training Demonstration (Range Day), which was held on the 635 yard Range 2 ( to the back berm). There were a variety of vendors there, Daniel Defense, NEMO, HS Precision Styer, Sig, FN, Trijicon, etc., etc., mostly shooting 6.5CM with some 308s (they were shooting auto on the right range but they weren't set up at the time I was there). Targets went from 200 out to clays on the berms at 635, as well a remote, moving and electronic targets to the right side of the range.

The Quantico Shooting Club also came out to support the event, of which I'm also a member. I'm amazed at how many people I speak with in the local area that don't know they can join and use these wonderful ranges on the weekends.

good news, just in time for us to downsize our footprint in one of the most 300WM friendly battle areas in the world. Oh well, glad they are finally getting a better kit. Theses generals need to get their heads out of their asses.
There's a long, LONG history of regular infantry officers hating on "cowboys" like Recon, Force, and Snipers. Goes all the way back to the Raiders, the regular officers couldn't wait to dismantle those regiments and make them regular infantry.

New Evolution Military Ordnance with their series of rifles, including the Dakkar, a super slick action with a carbon fiber forend. I was the first shooter and they hadn't Dope'd the rifle, so they walked me in to 635y. I dialed in the corrections and then started killing clays. I didn't shoot their other rifles as there were Marines waiting to give them a test ride.

A Daniel Defense 6.5 gasser. Again, no real challenge killing clays on a square range with winds that rarely move from full on to a quarter. It did double on me, maybe they dialed down the adjustable gas block a bit too much for suppressed. Note the Hornady ELD-Ms, which almost all the line was shooting. The common comment was how consistent the Hornady match ammo was out-of-the-box.

A Steyr on a tripod. I have to say this was the first time I ever shot off a tripod and I sucked. I was all around the target, but never on the target. I need to learn how to better pull it into my shoulder while leaning forward. Not also the Swarovski spotter with digital reticle. Oh my, was that one sweet piece of glass, I need to start saving my pennies.

I like that the CG/range control at Quantico support civilian shooters.

The mil post in my AO allows the local club to use the range twice a month and a recent change of command has changed what was a less friendly relationship with the civilian club.

The CMP was very helpful with maintaining access for civilians when the relationship looked like it might become adversarial.

Anyone wants to shoot at their local mil range contact the CMP with your plans and if you are focusing on education/cometition they may be the heavy you need to get access to some of the best ranges your money can buy.

Here's an H-S Precision, also in 6.5. I had a great time speaking with Josh (although the 85 degrees and 90% humidity was killing him just coming out of South Dakota) and how they manufacturer every piece of their rifles. Anyways, another tack-driver. I killed 4-5 of clays at 635 getting a bit too fast on the trigger on the last shot and missing right.

Schmidt and Bender's new 1-8 PM II Shortdot with lockable turrets. I spent time speaking with Harold who apparently came direct from the fatherland, or he had that German accent pegged. The 1-8 has a red dot as well as a firm click when on one power so the user knows they are on a true 1x, and then click out of 1x while remaining parallax free. The red dot is in the SFP and it had a CQB type reticle that made it fast on target while offering the ability to do holds. Harold also said this is what the German Army just selected for their DMR (G27?).

Day three was just a quick trip back to the range to see if any of the vendors brought anything new for day two of shooting. I did find that NEMO was given permission to bring out their Omen in 300WM. I didn't think to ask, but I believe this was their 18" version and was wearing their .338 suppressor. I've never shot a 300WM, let alone in a gas gun, but I have to say the rifle had an incredibly smooth recoil, probably less than my 7.62 gassers. I'm sure most of you here know more about the NEMO than do I, but it was pretty easy killing clays at 635y (as I would expect at that range). We were firing Federal 190s and there was a line of folks waiting to fire the Omen and their gasser in 6.5CM (remember that I fired the Dakkar yesterday).

It was a perfect day for shooting, in the 60's and raining. :) Pics are of the grounds and the NEMO Omen.
