Gunsmithing Modifying a 700 to use M1A Mags

I remember years ago in our rifle club the guys shooting hipower modifying bolt guns to accept m1a mags, anybody else have any experience with this? I know today we have bunches of bottom metal and AI mags but I'm just curious if its possible or practical. If it's been covered before sorry, I haven't seen it.

Possible, not practical ..........considering the good DBM we have now.

(Only reason I added an opinion here is that I have a shooting buddy who tried the conversion, years ago , on two different rifles. The results were pretty lousy on both rifles)
