After inletting a bolt handle on an H-S precision stock, is there a way to repair the finish without repainting the entire stock? Is the core the same color as the surface of the stock?

Just FYI: I did a test in the barrel channel and the stock's core seems to be about the the same color as the surface, maybe a shade or two lighter.

you know after working with epoxy for a bit, watching a few vids and such, a light coating of jbweld or similar would seal it up and allow for finishing and contouring. maybe that or a fiberglass sealer or gelcoat?
