montana going the way of colorado?

hoped montana would stay a worthwhile place. looks like it is going into the shithole like colorado. my FL remains on the edge.
Have you ever been to Montana? The state is purple as fuck and full of hippies and Commiefornians, where dems have won statewide elections regularly for decades.

And, the land is beautiful . Win/Win

The legalization of recreational weed in Montana has been a major negative turning point for Montana's future- like it's been for Colorado's. Clean, sober, logical and analytical voters are a necessity to fighting the fascism known as the democrat party.

hunted there in '76 & '77. liked it a lot but moving there was a no go. winters would not work for a FL raised guy and wages were lower for my job than in cent fl. i know COL would have been higher. so still in FL. sucks it going commie.

I worked there around the same time cutting timber in the Mission Mts, around St. Ignatius. Lived in a tent up near the cut area, got snowed on the 28th of July.. Beautiful country, and then very conservative.

Like you, this southern boy couldnt take the cold.

Not sure that it’s going commie just yet, especially if you look at the last elections.

Aren’t MT SC justices elected?

That and making each newly arrived leftist feel as unwelcome & unsafe as possible.

Many things are changing here. Big, out of state money changes things in many places.
When a state sends two US Congressmen to Washington, DC and they routinely vote opposite on issues there is very little representation.
They might as well flip a coin and, at least, vote the same way.... Regardless of the issue.
When your state is represented by elected officials with roots in other states, it's obvious why they are here.

We have been in a downward spiral for the last 10 years I would say. Exacerbated ten fold during Covid. All our politicians are shit, including our State Legislature and Governor, who are all Republicans. Our property taxes went through the roof, despite an overwhelming Republican state legislature. And, as per usual, no benefit seen from raised taxes whatsoever. The college towns are democratic shitholes and Bozemans new mayor is basically a Socialist. Grateful to have lived here during the good times, I fear they may be gone forever.

Almost like the republican party isn’t a solution to the problem. It’s a shame so many are stupid enough to believe in the dem vs rep battle. It’s an illusion.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, they are 3 years away from going blue……
Red/blue. Doesn’t matter. Things may change if people would ever figure out what should be obvious. People are played as the fools they are.

Spent a month on the road last summer, one of the places was White Fish, Montana, little town of White Fish at least 8 Pot Shops, I assume for the winter ski crowd or the Glacier NP crowd, liberal shithole, disappointed. CDA and Post Falls was more normal. Best diesel prices in the states we traversed. Off the beaten path was the best all around, cities suck.

yea,war on drugs should be dumped. it is an excuse for more police power abuse and it is long lost. the obsession with drugs is just a smoke screen to distract the "conservatives". legalize it,tax it,uninsured ODs-tough shit. the current fentanyl hysteria is just that. gov wants more/full power over your pain management. the chinese makers and mexican importers do not make people take and abuse it with a gun in their hand. all these "accidental" ODs are strictly voluntary. never use it as an excuse for bad behavior like our current system does. punish the act not the tool. any 2A believer should get that in view of all the current gun abuse hysteria. guess the commifornians have screwed montana. they did WA and OR 50 years or so ago.

ALL cities suck!

Did my residency in MT 30 years ago. Couldn't believe how much it had changed on trips back the last 10 years. I went to the Under the Big Sky concert in Whitefish earlier this year.......definitely a 420 shop on every corner. About like everywhere I expect...cities or tourism areas suck.

Don't forget, the Governor is from New Jersey. Always touts the "outdoor lifestyle" he lives and he is the epitome of an out of state Fudd who probably has never hunted without a guide, or on public land. I have met him before prior to his governorship. Definitely has a "shit doesn't stink" attitude about him.

That becomes readily more apparent every day on a local level and national level. I even know a few staunch old rancher types on both sides of the aisle that are beginning to realize it.

Better to have a conservative, active in the tea party a few years back, who happened to be born out of state than a native born leftist sack of shit from Missoula or Bozeman.

That is termed "Voting for the lesser of two evils"...... That is how America got into this rabbit hole.
For a moment, just imagine:

VOTE FOR ONE:

Nikki "Koch Brother's" Haley
Michelle "Big Mike" OBama

Easy, Nikki Haley.

She never made all the anti-white statements big mike did, nor has she ever advocated for gun control.

Matt Rosendale is hardly what anyone could call a rhino.

You just made @Hobo Hilton point. It’s sad that you went into this amount of detail explaining your “choice”. People are stupid and will never learn.

That may be true, but he still isn't from here. And he still can't get rid of that east coast accent. He is a developer and much like our Gov Gianforte, sort of created a "Montana" lifestyle persona. They never really lived it, just created it because they thought they would get style points. And it worked. I remember watching clips of an Orange Man rally in Great Falls and Don Jr was up there blathering on about sharing a hunting camp with Rosendale and some other political muppet. You could tell the masses just ate it up though and I was thinking about the only thing those guys shared was maybe using the same outfitter at some point.

When my wife and I started dating (she is from the Chicago area) I don't think there were but 3 people in her family who could have pointed Montana out on a map. This was almost 20 years ago. Now, MT is mainstream. Jesus, people have moved here just because they like the goddamn Yellowstone tv series.

On a more positive note, I was in a small MT town yesterday for work. I stopped at a local grocery store to grab a couple of road snacks and there was an old school Chevy pickup in the parking lot with a legit gun rack in the back window. Both sets of hooks were full with a shotgun and an older model bolt action rifle. That made me feel good for some reason.

So back the candidate on the other side that supports gun control and other degenerate shit?

Gianforte may not be perfect, find me someone that is, but he is far better than the other side. And body slamming that piece of shit leftist reporter was ultra-based.

Your summary is correct. I worked Heavy Industrial Construction, all over America. They were the big money, OT jobs. Always had hands on those jobs from Montana. Excellent craftsmen, great work ethics and always down to earth. At the beginning of big game season in Montana they would circulate by my work area, shake hands and let me know they were heading home to hunt. There was always an invitation to come and allow them to show me around. Eventually, I took them up on that invitation and I got a first hand look at what they always longed for when we were working.
The Montana of today is totally different than what they showed me. Other states in the PNW have gone through the same transformation. Unfortunate.

I will say that was pretty funny.

Never. I am in the "lesser of two evils" camp. It's just the older I get, I see some real validity in the whole "uniparty" theory and it sure seems like politicians in general will just about do or say ANYTHING to get elected and then stay in office. I will give you an example:

When Gianforte was campaigning, like ALL REPUBLICANS they campaign on less govt interference and LESS TAXES. If you own property in MT, you probably just realized that wasn't true at all. They changed the formula on property valuations and our taxes went up substantially. I pay over 1300 bucks a year more this year then I did last year. Over a 30% increase. And, even though he is a Republican, Gianforte took a page out of the Democrat playbook and is telling people "oh, but look at the awesome rebate I am giving you to offset it." Completely ignoring the fact his campaign promise was to lower taxes, not raise them. Not to mention the stupid fucking rebate is only for a year or two. Think our taxes will go down in two years? Ironically, if they do, I bet it is the Democrats who jump all over that during the next election cycle. Then they will try to lower property taxes and then try and institute a sales tax. And then they will say "we lowered your property taxes". It's all a shell game.

If we have to pay taxes, those taxes should be used for things that are for the betterment of the people. No more, no less.

Yellowstone just accelerated the madness.

However, people have been saying for 20 years that you can get to Montana from Bozeman. Just that it used to be a 20 minute drive, now it's more like an hour.

I've worked all over the state. It's all changing to some extent. Just that Bozeman and Missoula are in a race to be the next Portland.

Kalispell is in it's own little bubble. Still full of yuppies and Californians. However they still have defiance, proof research, carbon six, McGowan, etc. So it's definitely an oddity.

Kalispell developed like a few of the other PNW towns. They kept the quaint down town and allowed the big box stores to locate between Kalispell and Whitefish. I still enjoy Kalispell between the summer tourist and the winter skiers.
To me, it's become "seasonal", similar to other small towns.

They are not homeless. In Missoula they are "Road Campers"...
Those living in hotels (at the taxpayers expense) are termed.... "Houseless"..

I visited Missoula while working in Mission. Got my leg repaired at St. Patrick's Hospital. Nice place then, but that was around 1976. Seems a lot has changed.

It has and not for the better. A pity too as it’s a really nice area.

My work has taken me to MT several times recently, all my time spent between Great Falls and the border.

I really don't see any of what ya'll are saying but I don't go to any of those cities. I did see some weed shops popping up in Great Falls proper, a couple were in what looked like construction trailers. Naive to think people just started smoking weed when they legalized it lol

Just like all states with rural areas, urban/suburban lawmakers run the legislatures and rural interests are underrepresented. Ag still has a seat at the table in farming areas but oft times the other seats are filled with urbanites with no context for rural issues.

Great Falls is it's own weird place. There's lots of section 8 welfare cases, most are natives. Several neighborhoods downtown where you don't want to cut through an alley if you're the wrong color.

Then you have the air base, and the completely random people it cycles in. Mostly decent, but there's always the MPs. (My neighbors were MPs for 2 years there, they did shit off base they would be arresting people for on base weekly. 5 dudes in a 4 bedroom house all under 25)

Then you have all the odd segregated neighborhoods. Either side of 10th and the river breaking stuff up. Crazy high priced neighborhoods, poor neighborhoods with decent people, everything in between.

I believe they're still a "red county". Weed shops are only supposed to sell to those with a medical card. The city fought like hell to keep them out, so they started in the county and eventually the city wanted their tax money.

The city counsel is a bunch of old guys that own all the businesses downtown. They fight change, refuse business licenses and building permits, etc. The 2 Walmarts are actually in Black Eagle and in the county as the city wouldn't approve any permits for them. Any big box store or large corporation isn't welcome there.

I don't miss it there.

Hey man, that's my hometown! You are 100% right though, it's definitely got it's own vibe. Most of the folks I graduated High School with moved on to other places. I go back from time to time. I will say it's a breath of fresh air (moving at about 40mph from the Southwest) to go up there sometimes though. It may be weird, but its still Montana. Can't say the same for Bozeman and Missoula. The crime in Billings is pretty frickin bad too, definitely gotten worse.
