This happens at the MD/DE line too. MD state police started pulling over drivers coming from the tobacco or liquor stores. Seems over a certain amount is a crime in Maryland. Like bootlegging.

The same thing happens in NH for the low cost of cigarettes and alcohol, mostly by Maine and Massachusetts. Maine sent an undercover car to camp out in a liquor store parking lot (owned by the State of NH and a significant source of revenue) and radio Maine license plates of customers who would get stopped and searched and their "contraband" confiscated shortly after crossing the state line.

NH got wind of this and sent a State Trooper who told them to GTFO. Of the State of NH. Or be arrested for criminal trespass. They left.
