Hey - got the wife a Mossberg 500A, 20 in 7+1 for mothers day

Home defense. Plan on 2 3/4 #4 buck.

LOP needs to be reduced. Thinking of the hogue 12 in stock or the knoxx spec ops adjustable.

Concerned about the safety access w/ the knoxx.

Looking for comments about the knoxx w/ a 500 or anyone with experience with it. Got the 500 because I like the top safety and slide release positions.

If neither will work will maybe switch to 20 ga youth model and buyb a shorter barrel.

Comments? thanks all...

Re: MOSS 500 for wife - stock options...

I've always felt that when dealing with the slightly smaller, lighter 20ga, that a 20ga that is powerful enough to do the job isn't any better recoil wise than a standard 12 ga.

Most of the serious female shooters (my wife included) I know tend to be more practical than men when it comes to setting up a . If she is small enough to have the LOP reduced, does she need the extra +2 or +3 of the that full length mag tube....and the extra weight that comes with it? Also, is this a 20" or 18"? Long guns are difficult enough to maneuver in a home, don't make it harder for her with unnecessary length.

Re: MOSS 500 for wife - stock options...

I have a Mossberg 500 with a Knoxx stock on it, and I wouldn't change a thing. The stock has the adjustment of an M4, and really does reduce felt recoil. My gun came with a standard butt-stock when I bought it, after a dozen rounds of 00Buck, I was a little tender. With the Knoxx stock, I have shot 40 or 50 rds in a session with no real discomfort.
I'm very happy with this setup and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone.

SG -

Did the Knoxx fit the 500 well then? I had heard that the knoxx was built for the 870 and that their 500 model stock makes it hard to reach the trigger. Since this is for the wife that wouldnt work - I just havent been able to find one installed so I can see if it will work. I would love to use the knoxx since it would solve the LOP problem, and help with recoil.

I'm on the way out the door, but tonight I'll post some pictures of mine so you can see it all set up. I'd be surprised if she had any problems with it.

Re: MOSS 500 for wife - stock options...

I have the Knoxx on the Mossy 500. The only thing I don't like about it is the POA when the stock is fully collapsed. I find that the barrel is pointing "up" more. It takes a conscious effort to remember this. Just need to remember to hold "lower" on the target :)

OK, got the pics.
Here's my 500 18" barrel, with the Knoxx stock(fully colapsed)

Left side. Note the position of the button that allows you to work the action when the gun is cocked. This can be a little difficult to reach when in the firing position, but this has never been a problem for me.

For comparison, here is my wife holding the gun. (It is unloaded and I told her to put her finger on the trigger for demonstration purposes) Her hands are not very big, and she has no problems reaching the trigger.

I hope this helps.
