I have always run Varget in my 22-250. Are you guys aware of anything that tends to be more accurate then Varget? I am looking for accuracy and am not worried about temp extremes. Thanks for any help. I shoot most Nosler ballistic tips trough a factory 700 Remington varmint and it shoots quite well but my 300 WM Sendero shoots better group! Jeff

Re: Most accurate powders for the 22-250

Try 39 grns of H380 under a 50 grn Vmax in win cases and cci br2 primer. This load has always shot great in various 22-250 that I have owned over the years. It also works pretty good with 55 grn sierra blitz kings. Last year a buddy got a savage varminter in 250 and was having a hard time finding "the" load, I gave 10 rds of my reloads and he shot a nice .58" cluster with them. He was sold on that load.

My factory Remington 700 VSF shoots well with 36.2gr Varget behind 55gr V-Max. These are seated to -5th off the lands. I've also played around a bit with H414 behind 52gr SMK, but haven't settled on a load yet. I'm told that for short distances (100yd) the 53gr SMK are more accurate (flat base bullet obturates the lands better).

I had forgot about H380 often shooting tight groups. I tried BenchMark and although I didn't load 20 diffrent loads or anything, in my gun it just didn't show much promise. Jeff

+1 on H380. I have had better luck with magnum primers. Nothing will flow through a powder measure as good as H380 so if you are loading large volumes this may be a consideration.

Try 35g of RL15 under a 52gr SMK. It does well in my Remington factory heavy. Also, I found some old loads I had put up several years ago that consisted of IMR 4064(cannot remember the dose) under a 52g SMK. I did not remember ever using 4064 for 22-250, but it worked well.

35.5 of IMR-4064 with a sierra 52 BTHP is a tack driver in my 700 Rem. H380 is also an excellent choice and you get a tad more in velocity.

yep, hence the name H380 for 38.0gr. my experience has been very good with a little hotter load but I like this powder. I have tried Varget and 4064 and this is the best. My buddy swears by 42.0gr of H414, which I think is wayyyy hot. His rifle not mine!

Re: Most accurate powders for the 22-250

There is a fella selling a custom 22 250 in the gun section that has a group that looks real nice with and a powder that looks like 2520? I think it is either accurate arms or Allient. He has a 320 or less group with 10 shotd in it. that looks pretty good. I am going to try the H-380 and the IMR 4064 first. I really want to save my Vraget for other rounds. If the current shortage is ever over I will have other options but until then I am going to try some of these others you guys have had luck with. Jeff

Re: Most accurate powders for the 22-250

My load has always been with BallC2. It just happened to be the first powder I tried and the routine 1/2" to 3/4" groups in a factory M700 varmint with a 6-24x B&L scope was just dandy. I always intended to try IMR 4064 but never got around to it. My temp range was 55 F to 95F. If it's hotter than that I didn't hunt woodchucks or go to the range. More than one chuck hunt was interupted by a soak in the creek next to the farm fields.

ETA- I'm sure this is on a lower node and is mild for a .22-250. I came up with this load when I was a novice reloader and merely stopped as soon as I got good accuracy. I had a lot of room to go up but didn't feel the need.

CCI 200 primer
52gr BTHP match Sierra
34.5gr BLC2
