Question - what is the best method to ensure that when putting your Aimpoint into the rings that it is completely level and not off center? Ive heard several suggestions but none have really struck a cord with me yet.

Id love to hear how others have done it.

Thanks.

Re: Mounting an Aimpoint in rings straight

If i really wanted to get crazy about getting the dot being level I would level the rifle and sand bag it really well so it does not move, then adjust the elevation knob while the dot is aimed at a plumb bob string. By observing the dots travel you will see if your dot is level. The string would have to be fairly close and somewhat thick so you could see

Re: Mounting an Aimpoint in rings straight

I'm not sure if I'm answering the question you are asking but I'll give it a try:

When I install my Aimpoints I first level the rifle in a vise with a small square spirit level across the rail. Then I Install the Aimpoint in the mount (in my case a lower-third ADM) with the rings just tight enough to keep it from rotating on its own. I install the mount on the rail and use the same spirit level across the top of the elevation turret, cap off, to level the optic.

Hope this is what you were looking for...

Sounds, good....Im off to Home Depot to pick up a spirit level. Think I will try both that and the plumb bob string method to check to make sure it's centered.

Thanks.

Re: Mounting an Aimpoint in rings straight

My favorite way to level an Aimpoint was to sell my M2 and get the M4S that had an integrated base! HA

But I also use a spirit level and plum line for regular scopes.
